Utah Phillips - Starlight on the Rails

Posted about 1 year ago
Way back when, in a land far away, the likes of Utah Phillips, Jim Ringer, Mary McCaslin and Rosalee Sorrels could be heard on the ether. Mostly I remember these people from the Philadelphia Folk Festivals of the late 60's, and center city folk havens like The Second Fret and the MainPoint... but reverie being what it is, here's Utah....

  1. runobodyii says Mad love to you. I was just trying to post "Bum on the Rod" from The Past Didn't Go Anywhere, but MOG brain couldn't pull it up. I'm also looking in a desultory kind of way for something like "Daddy, What's a Train." This one's very nice. A priest friend of mine sent out an email maybe a moth or so soliciting help for Utah who was sick and broke. I should write an ask him for an update. And center city Philly, it's one of my fave places.

  3. runobodyii says you know, I've had some great eatin in Philly (I spent five days there with friends last of Feb, beginning of March, and we ate out every night, plus some lunches) but I've never had a Philly cheese steak there. Have to put that on the list. Living in the Mid-Atlantic I can be in Philly by lunchtime if I take the early morning train (which is also the only train).

  7. Sturgell says I remember the first time I saw him perform, couldn't have been older than 13. The way he put the world into perspective really blew me away. It was almost one of the first times someone said to me "hey, really you don't have to be a rockstar or whatever to be able to speak to and inspire people." yep. Utah is the man.
