St. Louis mayor Francis Slay rejected a request that September 2nd would be honorary Ike Turner Day in the city. Organizers for the Big Muddy Blues festival made the request after booking the 75-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer for the event that day. The request was denied due to the many conflicts Turner has been involved in, his reputation as an abusive husband included. Turner also spent some 17 months in prison for a 1990 drug conviction."All I can say, and I would say this only to her, is `I'm sorry,'" Turner told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Sunday's edition referring to former wife Tina Turner. "I just care about making people happy in the audience," Turner said in regards to the Ike Turner Day incident.
