Who would have ever thought that tall skim vanilla lattes would be fueling the neo-music world? Following in the footsteps of Paul McCartney Canadian folk singer Joni Mitchell has signed to Starbuck's music label Hear Music for the release of her next album, Shine.Shine is due at Starbucks locations on September 25th and will be Mitchell's first album of new compositions since 1998's Taming The Tiger, which was released on Reprise Records. Nine of Shine's ten songs were written by Mitchell with the only exception being her adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling poem "If." Mitchell describes the work "as serious a work as I've ever done."
Using McCartney's tactic looks to favor Mitchell. McCartney's Memory Almost Full, which streamed endlessly at Starbucks, sold 45% of its copies at its locations. Veteran artists like Mitchell are leaning towards the Starbucks method of selling music because many believe more of their older fans are likely to spend more time at Starbucks than at a record store.
