Posted over 2 years ago
Elvis Costello released his breakthrough and debut album My Aim Is True in 1977. It reached Number Fourteen in the U.K. and quick hype made it a hot import before its official U.S. release and Top 40 chart position. The world had been officially introduced to the thick-framed rocker. For the new expanded reissue of My Aim Is True, the original thirteen track recording has been morphed into a two-disc 48-track collection. A total of 29 previously unreleased recordings have been added and fall along the lines of live recordings, outtakes, demos making their way to CD for the first time. Costello originally recorded My Aim Is True before putting together his permanent band, the Attractions (bassist Bruce Thomas, pianist Steve Nieve and drummer Pete Thomas.) For the endeavor he worked with San Francisco-based country four-piece Clover, who were living in England at the time and Huey Lewis would later join.Disc one additions include outtakes of classic Costello tunes, plus eight demos. Disc two is a Costello show from Aug. 7, 1977 at London's Nashville Rooms. The live disc also features five songs recorded during soundcheck earlier in the day.Disc one:"Welcome to the Working Week""Miracle Man""No Dancing""Blame It on Cain""Alison""Sneaky Feelings""(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes""Less Than Zero""Mystery Dance""Pay It Back""I'm Not Angry""Waiting for the End of the World""Watching the Detectives""No Action" (outtake)"Living in Paradise" (outtake)"Radio Sweetheart" (outtake)"Stranger in the House" (outtake)"Welcome to the Working Week" (Pathway Studios demo)"Blue Minute" (Pathway Studios demo)"Miracle Man" (Pathway Studios demo)"Waiting for the End of the World" (Pathway Studios demo)"Call on Me" (Pathway Studios demo)"(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" (Pathway Studios demo)"I Don't Want To Go Home" (Pathway Studios demo)"I Hear a Melody" (Pathway Studios demo)Disc two (live in London, Aug. 7, 1977):Introduction"Welcome to the Working Week""Blame It on Cain""No Dancing""Waiting for the End of the World""Night Rally""Hoover Factory""No Action""(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea""Miracle Man""The Beat""Less Than Zero""(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes""Lipstick Vogue""Watching the Detectives""Lip Service""Mystery Dance""Alison""Pay It Back" (soundcheck)"Radio Sweetheart" (soundcheck)"Sneaky Feelings" (soundcheck)"Crawling in the USA" (soundcheck)"Alison" (soundcheck)Source:http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003601084

  1. frankie707 says I actually own two versions of the original Lp. Sporting different artwork & a longer version of Alison on the US version. I got to meet him once on the Imperial Bedroom tour. He didn't come across as being very likeable.... but who knows he could have just been Grouchy because IB was not selling very well. Anyway I am now off to Amazon to buy this re-release.

  2. Tony Scalzo says Know it like the back of my hand, I do...won the hand of many a fine lady singing those songs. Had a girlfriend named Allison once, too.
