Television Guitarist In Hospital
-
Artist:
Television guitarist Richard Lloyd missed what was deemed to be his final appearance with the band this past weekend in New York City. Instead Lloyd has been in the hospital fighting a life-threatening case of pneumonia. His Web site reports: “…Richard is currently unwell. He has been in the hospital Intensive Care for 8 days with pneumonia as a primary medical problem. This has responded to treatment and he has shown some improvement and is now free of the breathing apparatus.”This bad news comes after more bad news. Prior to his hospitalization Lloyd announced that after Television’s June 16th Summer Stage show in New York City that he would “… after 34 years, be amicably severing all ties with the band Television, in order that he may concentrate his magnetic force and supernatural energies upon his own career in support of his forthcoming record, due out in the fall.”The new record is with his band Sufi Monkeys, who last toured in May. Lloyd, who also teaches guitar in the New York City area, went on to describe the new Sufi Monkeys album as a direct competitor “…with Marquee Moon, Axis: Bold As Love, The Doors, Patti Smith’s Horses, Bob Marley’s Natty Dread, Neil Young’s Harvest, or any other records you can name, as one of the greatest records ever made in the history of rock ‘n roll.”It is unknown whether once Lloyd recovers, if he will play one last show with Television - known for their cult-favorite release Marquee Moon - culminating the punk band’s three decades together (The very first Television show was at the Townhouse Theatre on March 4th, 1974.)Source:http://www.richardlloyd.com/news.htm
