-
Artist:
Van Halen lead singer Sammy Hagar has sold an 80 % share of his Cabo Wabo Tequila line to Skyy Spirits, a subsidiary of Milan-based Gruppo Campari with hopes that the spirit company will make his line of tequila global. Cabo Wabo tequilas are sold after different aging processes: Reposado, Anejo, Blanco, and new ultra luxury Cabo Uno. Gruppo Campari’s stake in Cabo Wabo becomes effective in January of 2008.“When I created Cabo Wabo, I never dreamed that it would be received so well by my fans and people who really love good tequila," said Sammy Hagar said in a statement. "While I am proud of its success, it's time to let the world have a shot at the best tequila on the planet and Campari can help take us there."Hagar began Cabo Wabo and opened up his bar/club, the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, after hooking up with a small Mexican tequila maker, the Rivera family, who have been in operation since 1937. Since, Hagar’s tequila has one countless tasting awards, including double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Completions. In the meantime, no word on any other Van Halen reunions. Let’s just hope Hagar doesn’t send a bottle of Cabo Uno to “his pal” Eddie Van Halen, who has recently gotten out of rehab.
