Pete Wentz Contemplated Suicide, Now Helping Fight It

Posted about 1 year ago
Suicide is the dumbest shit anyone can do, next to killing a friend in the passenger seat while driving under the influence. On a personal note, the effects and turmoil self-flicted death causes on friends and family is indescribable, if anything unbearable. Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz is sorta a dumbass. He toyed with the idea of killing himself, around the time he was launching his music career. (Could it have been all the mean eyeliner remarks?)In the Jed Foundation's Half Of Us campaign, helping cut student suicide rates, Wentz describes his suicide method (overdosing on prescription pills), but admits he was lucky and got help in time. And if he hadn't, he'd never become the king of emo with a buttload of cash, dating one of the Simpson sisters. Moral of the story: don't kill yourself. we give Wentz major props on not committing the act and trying to help others. Wentz's words:"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's (song) Hallelujah and sat there and took a bunch of (prescription drug) Adavan in a Best Buy (store) parking lot. And I called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Adavan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring my words, so he called my mom and my mom called me and she came and got me and we went to the hospital. I came home and we realised that we needed to do more than just keep (my) head above water. It's not really about keeping your head above water, it's about feeling all right and feeling safe in your own skin. It's not about keeping your head above water and barely keep going."For more on suicide prevention head "here.":http://www.halfofus.com/

  1. kaluss says while he MAY be a dumbass, i am not sure that contemplation of suicide is what classifies him as so. it is quite common to, at one point, have the notion cross one's mind.....time heals. peace.

  2. dermahrk says I first read the post title as ??Comitted suicide??, not contemplated. Now it makes much more sense.

  4. Scotch says Someone mentioned Wendy O. Williams in another post, and it got me thinking about the suicide note she reportedly left: "I don't believe that people should take their own lives without deep and thoughtful reflection over a considerable period of time. I do believe strongly, however, that the right to do so is one of the most fundamental rights that anyone in a free society should have. For me much of the world makes no sense, but my feelings about what I am doing ring loud and clear to an inner ear and a place where there is no self, only calm." I'm glad that people are working with groups like Jed's Foundation, because no one should have to reach the point where suicide is seen as a viable option.
