In his career as a country singer-songwriter Porter Wagoner has launched the career of country music's first lady, Dolly Parton, and inspired young America's new rock hero, Jack White, both musically and fashionably. Wagoner recently celebrated his 80th birthday and 50th year at the Grand Ole Opry, the weekly Saturday night country music radio program from Nashville, Tennessee. But over the weekend, with his condition marked as serious, Wagoner's publicist finally revealed the country legend is fighting a battle with lung cancer. No other information has been released about the state of his health. News wires reported over the weekend of an emotional Dolly Parton visiting Wagoner's bedside and vowing to sing with him again. Parton and Wagoner were a duet team for many years, winning Country Music Association's duo of the year in 1970 and 1971. (Kind of like June Carter and Johnny Cash, but with blond hair.)
