la movida madrilena

Posted about 5 years ago
Just aint enough time to mog. I recently took an amazing trip to Spain While working on a little write up on Spain Travel (http://www.quixo.com/spain ) I got re-obsessed with Spanish rock from the Edad de Oro de Pop Espanol. The 60's and 70's came a little late to Spain. In 1975 Franco died and people were free again... And there just wasn't enough work so young people had a lot of time on their hands. So a counterculture flourished. Madrid's nightlife gave birth to tons of rock bands, art and film (Pedro Almadovar).A lot of pop in Spain (and I suppose elsewhere) is US music, or horrible imitations. And everywhere the 80's had a lot of bad electronic music. Still the music of the Movida was pretty inspired. Even when it is over the top new wave (alaska y los pegamoides), painfully poppy (Hombres G) or juvenile silly punk (los toreros muertos) it was Spanish, brilliant in its own way, and it sounded like freedom. And now through the miracle of youtube you can enjoy it all again.Hombres G - Devulvame a Mi ChicaToreros Muertos - Yo No Me Llamo JavierNacha Pop - La Chica de AyerAlaska y los Pegamoides - No Se Por Que
