According to an Associated Press investigation, upon learning of the potential health risk in the jewelry Wal-Mart demanded suppliers provide proof of safety on incoming items. However, Wal-Mart failed to remove the already dangerous items that were sitting on their sales floor waiting to be purchased by children around the nation.

Representatives from the jewelry industry say the items are safe as long as they aren't "sucked, bitten, or swallowed"-- which sounds reasonable if you ignore the fact that these jewelry pieces are marketed toward "juiniors" who tend to do things like put jewerly in their mouths.
