Erykah Badu Charged With Disorderly Conduct for "Window Seat" Video

Posted almost 2 years ago

UPDATE: Police officers say they have indeed charged Badu with disorderly conduct and will mail her a citation. Badu faces up to a $500 fine, according to TMZ.

Well, this is getting out of hand... after the relative non-controversy that erupted over Erykah Badu's new "Window Seat" video, the Dallas police department has slowly but surely begun to save face by finding a way to charge Badu for getting naked in their streets. Early this morning, Rolling Stone reported that the police have been hoping to charge the singer once formal complaints are filed:

Law enforcement officials in Dallas are considering hitting Erykah Badu with a disorderly conduct charge for walking around Dallas' Dealey Plaza in the nude while filming her controversial new video "Window Seat" (YouTubes of the clip have been removed, but it's posted in full on Badu's official website). While no one who witnessed Badu's strip show called law enforcement at the time of the shoot, police are actively asking anyone who saw Badu naked to step forward and file a complaint.

It apparently hasn't taken very long for that to happen, as TMZ has the scoop on a the first of presumably many formal complaints to be filed as the result of the video:

Cops say a Texas woman lodged the complaint yesterday with police, after she and her mother saw Erykah shooting the video completely naked. Cops say the incident is officially under investigation and the singer could face several charges, including disorderly conduct.

While the whole ordeal still seems a tad silly, we'll have to wait and see if anything actually happens here, especially as Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway said "I don't think it's going to be something she would go to jail behind, but certainly the message has to be sent." Check out the divisive video for yourself below!

Stupid! Public nudity really should be a non-issue. It's our natural state. And it's highly doubtful that any children present were traumatized or offended. Children are very open to nudity in their innocence, since that's how we all started out. In fact most children prefer to be naked & don't have an issue w/it whether it's them or anyone else.

It's just our puritanical, religious society that teaches us that its 'wrong'.

I like that they keep spinning it to say 'filming a video in the nude'.

People, she was only fully nude for maybe 5 minutes. If that. And as it's easy to see from the periphery IN the video, a few people looked at her, but no one stopped and said anything, or even looked offended. They just kept walking in typical 'don't give the weirdo any attention' style.

So, Texas... what's the real beef here?
