The Hip-Hop Beef Report: June 23, 2010

Hip-hop is built on competition. Nowadays, that competitive spirit is manifested in the form of diss tracks, youtube tirades, and radio-show arguments. Beef, drama, and miscellaneous conflicts are more plentiful in rap music today than you could possibly imagine. Every week we'll fill you in on the latest in bruised egos and hurt feelings. As Jay-Z once so eloquently put it... "Sensitive thugs, they all need hugs."

The rap beef was plentiful last week, but things have calmed down a bit as we near the end of June. Perhaps it's a respectful ceasefire as we hit album release dates for Drake and Eminem. In any event, here's your daily dose of conflicts, anger, and hurt feelings. This week Young Berg's chain meets it's untimely death, Kanye faces off with Suge Knight, and Tony Yayo gets caught stealing.

Eminem Says Lil Wayne & Kanye "would have killed him" In A Battle

On the track entitled "Talkin To Myself" off Eminem's new album, Recovery, he revealed that he made a diss tracked aimed at Lil Wayne & Kanye that never saw the light of day. In hindsight, Eminem says the track was made out of jealousy because Kanye & Weezy were so successful at the time. In an interview with SPIN, Em recounts his feelings at the time he created the track and what he thinks would have happened had it been released.

"I thought, 'Man, I can do that shit. He ain't that dope,'" Em said. "I'm hearing this dude say some clever, witty shit and I'm not doing it, so I feel fucked up." Em ultimately opted not to release the unnamed dis track. "It would have been career suicide," he said. "They would have fuckin' murdered me."

Considering the fact that Kanye West is not a battle rapper and Lil Wayne has never put out a diss track aimed at anyone in his 12-year career, we seriously doubt Eminem would have been in trouble. Even in a drug-induced haze, Eminem was still a force to be reckoned with.

Rapper Throws Young Berg's Bling Into The River

Young Berg has slowly but surely turned into hip-hop's whipping boy over the course of the last two years. He's been assaulted on video by unknown men, slapped in the club by Maino, and had his blinged out Transformers necklace taken away. The aforementioned Transformers chain has exchanged hands nearly a half dozen times over the last year or so, eventually landing with up-and-coming rapper Riez.

In the video below, you'll see Riez express his frustration in dealing with Young Berg's representatives and throws the chain in a river out of anger (and to make a name for himself).

Suge Knight Meets Kanye Face To Face Over $1 million Lawsuit

As previously reported, Suge Knight is suing Kanye West over a 2005 Miami beach party in which Knight was shot in the leg. A bone in Suge's leg was shattered as a result, and the former hip-hop mogul required extensive physical therapy to regain full use of the leg. Suge hoped to have a face-to-face meeting with Kanye (who was responsible for throwing the party) to resolve the issue, but Kanye reportedly refused to speak and let his lawyers handle everything. Given Knight's history with "face-to-face meetings" with Eazy-E and Vanilla Ice, we can't blame Kanye for backing off.

"I figured I could sit him down, man to man, and get this resolved," said Knight to the Associated Press after what appeared to be a frustrating six-hour, closed-door session in New York. "I'm disappointed."

"My whole thing is: I'm not here to put nobody behind bars ," added Knight, who claims that West and the Shore Club should've been aware of the "dangerous environment" the party could produce, due to beefing rap stars.

17-Year-Old Rapper Accuses Tony Yayo of Stealing His Song

A teenage rapper named Muller St-Cyr from New York presented mighty compelling evidence that G-Unit member Tony Yayo completely ripped off his song in a new video expose. Muller's version of the song is titled "They Say" and Tony Yayo's version is called "They Hate". There's no question that one of these songs is a rip off of the other, but can Muller prove that his song was recorded before Yayo's?

On a side note, this kid is 17 years old and his face is completely covered with tattoos. I hope this hip-hop thing takes off for him because if it doesn't, job options will be limited.
