I'm With Coco: A Tribute to Conan's 7 Greatest Musical Moments

Posted over 2 years ago

Written By: Brittany Flynn

A week ago, we analyzed the cancellation of Conan through the eyes of up-and-coming acts (SPOILER: It sort of sucks!). What we failed to mention is that the red-haired wonder is a musical force in his own right. In honor of Coco's last stand as host of the Tonight Show, we dug through hours of NBC archives to bring you seven of our favorite musical moments. Watch, with a tear in your eye, as Conan, Max, Andy, and LaBamba give hilarious, and surprisingly solid, performances of their own. Needless to say, cowboy hats, Mormon choirs, and futuristic bell tolls are all included.

Dazed and Confused:

The Late Night crew take up some time by performing Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused." Conan embraces the Robert Plant look, baring his chest, while Andy fills the role of Page, bow and all. Keep watching because the medieval-fantasy scenes are as hilarious as they are incredible.

Country Conan:

Decked out in a rhinestone blazer, cowboy hat, and beard, Conan shows his country, covering "Blue Moon of Kentucky" by Bill Monroe. He's got the voice and the chops to front a band. Next career move?

A Song for the Mormons:

Since some Mormon Senator guy went and wrote a Hanukkah song for the Jews, Max, Andy, Conan, and the Mormon "Tappernacle" Choir come together to sing a little holiday song just for Mormons.

Guns N' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle":

In this brief clip, Conan suits up in a barber shop quartet get-up to serenade a couple of women, but they just think he sounds like Mork.

German disco light show:

This was filmed during the writers' strike. Instead of sketches, Conan decides to host a raving German light show because "there's no reason on god's green earth" not to. Listen to his disturbing German accent.

In the Year 2000:

In this classic version of the recurring sketch, LaBamba's lends his falsetto, while Conan and Andy wear futuristic hats and predict what will happen in 2000. It's a new frontier in the realm of the spoken word.

Andrew WK teaches Conan his Dance Moves:

Conan shows he's capable of passionate faux-mosh moves, getting Andrew WK to show him how to throw down. These are the moves you only wish you had the guts to break out at your next dinner party.

Anybody mocking Robert Plant is A-ok in my book. I watched every clip and laughed my ass off.

Brings back great memories when Conan was starting to hit his stride!  I've been sad this week seeing him go, but loving how much style he put into it!  Thanks!
