Atom Heart Mother

Pink Floyd's first number one album is certainly one that gets lost in the shuffle, but it seems that the Floyd really came into their own with this album and it shows the potential for their massive successes to come. Pink Floyd's most ambitious track in their catalogue at the time, the Atom Heart Mother Suite, was a 24 minute experimental track composed with the help of electronic composer Ron Geesin and used the accompaniment of horns and choir. The title apparently came from a headline in "The Evening Standard" for a story about a pregnant woman with a pacemaker. The album is a good look at the ebb and flow of the psychedelic Floyd of the late 60s to their progressive rock super-stardom of the 70s.^ Lulubelle IIIanother interesting note: Stanley Kubrick asked Pink Floyd for use of Atom Heart Mother for the soundtrack to his film A Clockwork Orange........they refused. Here's some of the suite from a 1970 show in San Tropez:

  1. Spencer Owen says Whoa, Clockwork with Pink Floyd? No offense to Floyd (props to them for refusing, in fact) - it turned out way better than that would've been. This is a cool album though. I love "Summer '68."
