WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

You got speed freak jive.....

One of my favorite Stones' tracks. I had been wanting to post some live video of this, but after intermittent youtube searches and some research I now realize the band didn't actually play this live until 2002 and I'd rather not subject you to some recent Stones footage. And that's no offense intended boys...just the coolness meter ain't quite what it once was (...and I realize I just wrote that as if Mick and Keith swing by my MOG page from time to time -- which they do...). Off of their 1971 album _Sticky Fingers_, this was one of the earliest songs featuring Mick Taylor on lead guitar after the death of Brian Jones. The piece, at seven minutes and fourteen seconds, extends well beyond the normal length of a Stones track. From Mick Taylor in 1979: "'Can't You Hear Me Knocking' is one of my favorites. (The jam at the end) just happened by accident; that was never planned. Towards the end of the song I just felt like carrying on playing. Everybody was putting their instruments down, but the tape was still rolling and it sounded good, so everybody quickly picked up their instruments again and carried on playing. It just happened, and it was a one-take thing. A lot of people seem to really like that part."The song begins with a gritty guitar riff and eventually leads into an extended jazz break, featuring Billy Preston on organ, Bobby Keys on sax, and Jimmy Miller on percussion. Feel free to shake your ass while you listen.

  1. Lizziegreeneyes says Good stuff my friend. I am also partial to Moonlight Mile... just so against the grain for them & so lovely. But I do prefer my stones really gritty ;) I've always heard a GD vibe in the chorus when the voices chime in... kinda a stretch, but along with the guitar supporting the chorus... it was just what my ears directed my head to think !!!

  8. sam9muhr says I totally know this song from Guitar Hero. Hahaha... JK/mocking... Loved the Stones before. Guitar Hero- I could never get most of my friends to listen to the songs/bands that are on that game. Funny now they love most of it. Gahr. Oh well- one way or another.

  9. Lyrikhan says Probably their best....though I'm slightly partial to Beggar's Banquet. I wonder why they never played this live until recently.

  10. Lyrikhan says put this in Guitar Hero, did they? ...I am trying to avoid that game at all costs....I have a stubborn streak that makes me refuse to like something that people keep telling me is great.... Air guitar is all I need.
