SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Down In Mexico

Posted over 2 years ago

As is the case with all Tarantino movies, there is normally a song from the soundtrack that I instantly fall in love with and listen to non-stop for several days. Who could resist listening to Stealer's Wheel after Reservoir Dogs or Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" after watching Jackie Brown? My newest Tarantino song-crush originates from his half of the Grindhouse release, Death Proof, and comes by way of The Coasters. I knew a few songs by The Coasters beforehand...namely; "Poison Ivy", "Charlie Brown", and "Yakkety Yak"...but was unaware of their first hit, "Down In Mexico", which Quentin uses to perfection in this lap dance scene involving Vanessa Ferlito and Kurt Russell.

  1. Jonh Ingham says What's unrealistic in that lap dancing scene? Correct: The jukebox has The Coasters on it. If you're unfamiliar with it, "Shopping For Clothes" is the song you need to hear.

  8. HelenMarie says Oh and how about..."Girl...you'll be a woman sooooon...Oh Girl..." I enjoyed this movie. I started to get a bit pissed when the ladies wouldn't just stop to pull over and get the aussie off the hood, but other than that, enjoyed.

  11. Lyrikhan says yeah if that is true it seems like they would have cut out some of the best bits of the movie....cause I thought there was some great dialogue that led to her deciding to give him the lap-dance
