Momentum!

Posted almost 3 years ago

I had a crazy week, y'all. Or maybe it was 2 weeks. I don't know, the days are all blending into each other, and I'm not sure what's what right now. So productive, I love it to death. Did four SoCal shows in a row, including one crazy sold-out gig w/De La Soul in SD, finished mixing my new single "Funky Hit Records" w/Cresswell, posted and released the song and video for FREE worldwide download at lyricsborn.com, then had an incredible studio session w/Sam Sparro for my new LP. That's right, y'all, Sam Sparro! That boy's Fonkay! On the flight home I got wild loaded off those little bottles of airplane "Merlot" (if you can even call it that), and stumbled into a (slightly slurred and raspy) Cartoon Network voiceover session for my #1 rated Friday nite franchise, "You Are Here". Next, I hit up Joyo's crazy solo concert @ Poleng lounge in SF (my lady got hits, y'all!), and then celebrated D-Sharp's B-Day @ Ambassador. Fell thru to the very sold-out and off the hook International Secret Agents concert @ Palace Of Fine Arts in SF, where my boys Far East Movement and Jin tha MC tore it down. Spent the rest of the weekend @ Studio With A View writing and reviewing a gang of new material for "As U Were", and listened to the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Dream, Sly and Robbie, Violent Femmes, and more. Finished off the weekend by very unselfishly doing my part in stimulating this troubled economy by shopping my ass off. Just when I was ready to go back into the studio Monday, I got the call that "Funky Hit Records" would be the featured video on Youtube starting @ Monday 3/23 @ 9pm pst. Now that's a cherry on top like a muthaf#cka. Thank you, God.

One long run-on sentence, I know, but that's basically my life & I wouldn't have it any other way. For me, it just don't get no better than this. People say I'm a workaholic, but honestly, I'm not addicted to work. I've come to realize that what I'm really addicted to is, MOMENTUM. I only work as hard as I do to create momentum. According to every emcee's friend, the Miriam-Webster dictionary, Momentum is defined as "Strength or force gained by motion or through the development of events." I just keep pushing that big ball up the hill until it rolls on it's own. It's intoxicating.

Just peep the timeline y'all, this shit is so crazy to me. I love the fact that I can create and release a song and video like "Funky Hit Records" without labels, promoters, publicists, or any of the clunky machinery that my music typically has to filter thru before it actually reach my peoples. The very next day I wake up to literally hundreds of emails via Facebook, Myspace, and privately, from people saying they love the song and have been singing it non-stop. That nite I'm @ the club and 5 DJ's told me they played the record on-air, and mind you, I'm not even sure I remember all the lyrics to this song yet! Within 1 week of mixing the song, my label in Australia called ME scratching their heads saying Triple J was playing the record and they were asking ME how they got it. Then yesterday, I got the call from YouTube saying they were going to make it the featured video. I was literally still writing this shit less than a week ago!

New Era: "Welcome your New Era, Lyrics Born".

LB: "Thank you New Era, I love you already….. And in a major way. The "Old Way" is officially my ex-girl. BTW, will you marry me? Also, do you have a nickname? Something a little less clinical?"

New Era: "Sure, call me 'Epiphany'. And LB, as much as I'd love to say 'Yes', you really shouldn't be married to any one method for too long. But I will ride with you for the time being."

LB: "I'm in, baby"

Awesome! I can feel the momentum going, going just from reading about it. Great new song indeed, LB. Def deserving of the featured spot!
