mmmm i have today off. today is the day i get my new piece. i am thinking about a bubbler, but i want to see what they have first.

so, yesterday, i got my paycheck. and in an absolute fit of downloading-guilt, i went to volume. volume's my favorite record store in the area, i've been coming since i was about 10 - the owner's different now, but he's cool and actually about my age, which i think is great. if i had any balls at all, i'd say fuck school and open a record shop, too. so, i spent probably an hour in the shop. maybe more. i went in to get _the crane wife_ (decemberists, duh), but they didn't have it, so i spent a looong time hunting through the racks. and then adam, the owner, started helping me out, and this is what i've ended up with: a) Band of Horses, _Everything All the Time_ - (my cousin, who i only met this weekend but who gave me TOTAL FEST ENVY said they're good, and i've heard that before, and then i saw the CD, so i figured i'd pick it up. this cousin, by the way, went to coachella AND lollapalooza, and part of me is still raging with jealousy. and he's seeing modest mouse. and the shins. grr.) b) Silver Jews, _Bright Flight_ - i just wanted it. c) Psapp, _The Only Thing I Ever Wanted_ - this, i have no idea. adam played some of it in the store for me, and i figured, hell, why not. has anyone ever heard of them? i feel like probably this is just one of those things that i've somehow, miraculously, missed. it's cute shit, though. and last but definitely, definitely not least: d) TOTALLY 80'S - it's TWO DISCS. i've been meaning to make an 80s mix cd for goddamn YEARS, and i never get around to it, and this fell from the heavens like a gift. jessica and i were listening to it in the car last night (we were pretty baked) and it was the coolest thing ever. i mean, it has "take on me", "walk like an egyptian", "addicted to love", "karma chameleon", "everybody have fun tonight", "jessie's girl", "sexual healing", "centerfold", "what i like about you", "i just died in your arms", "jenny", etc etc etc etc. 40 SONGS OF GODDAMN 80S MUSIC. i am EXCITED.

have i ever mentioned that while part of me knows i should be ashamed of my total 80s fetish, the other part of me reallllly doesn't give a shit? this is the side that's talking now, and also the side that's wondering why the fuck "tainted love" (the long version!) and "melt with you" aren't on these goddamn cds. alas.

i also ordered a bunch of cds by bands whose music i've downloaded and LOVE, but whose music i obtained illegally and they deserve my money, dammit. a) well, the crane wife, but only because i want that. not because i want them to have anymore of my money. maybe only a little. b) Letting Up Despite Great Faults. - i'm sorry guys. i'm buying now. okay? c) Menomena - i bought concert tickets! i'm sorry! d) Possible Selves - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm e) Pattern is Movement - shame.

at least i have guilt, okay. i do. it's just that i can usually manage to ignore it and save my money. i'm paying my penance. geez.

we watched billy madison last night. i forget how hilarious that movie is.

anyhow, having done my part to boost the music industry, i am off to boost the glass industry, as well.
