i've been trying, for several months now, to understand what people see in *of montreal*. and finally, i'm giving it up. i can see how maybe to some people the music would be appealing or something, but mostly it makes me want to shove pencils into the speakers of my computer just to make him shut up. and i don't understand it - they're a band that i'd really expect myself to like. but i've tried, and i REALLY don't, so i'm giving it up. in other news...the decemberists concert was totally great; there were maybe 2 or 3 people in front of me but we were right in the middle (which, for any decemberists concert, is the perfect spot). they played a lot more old stuff, which is exactly what i wanted - they even played "shiny" and brought back "the mariner's revenge song", which is FANTASTIC. personally, i've seen them play better shows, but this was great nonetheless. we talked to nate (bass, misc.) after the show and he was really cool, but these two girls kept making him talk about meth labs so ...well, that was just strange. we were both (brenda and i) sort of baked at the time, so it probably seemed like we thought a lot of things were funny that probably weren't...whatEVer. i've been listening to tarkio a lot lately as well, at first just because of the whole colin meloy thing, but i can honestly say i dig it. it's like if the decemberists cut back on the crazy instruments and stopped telling so many stories. which is obviously not as good as the decemberists, so it's good that he got this out of his system and onto an album where i can appreciate it, but not expect it in the future.there was an acoustic anti-flag show at volume yesterday and i totally spaced and forgot about it until just now. crap. i've been listening to a lot of new shit lately, mostly because i just erased my entire mp3 player and put a ton of shit that i've never quite gotten around to listening to on it, and it's been working out well. i still don't have the willpower to let shuffle play whatever it wants, but i'm getting better, so whatever. brenda's visit was awesome because i got to shove music into her skull instead of waiting a year for her to "get around" to listening to something i've been trying to get her into for a year and a half. anyhow. you know the NOW! series of cds? like, "NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC VOLUME EIGHTEEN MILLION BILLION"? they're making "NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL INDIE ROCK VOLUME ONE OUT OF A MILLION THOUSAND", apparently. god, mass consumerism is SO great. wait, what?
