Duuuude. So today I finally went up to Volume, my favorite local record store, and stocked up on some new music. Get this - Adam, the guy that owns it, got a promo poster from Menomena in the mail, and he saved it for me and gave it to me today. It's fucking awesome, it has all this cool artwork on it and stuff. So this is what I picked up on vinyl:*The Worst of Jefferson Airplane*, which is really like, the BEST.*Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band*, as performed by Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire, Alice Cooper, and friends. What can I say, I like kitsch. *The Big Chill Soundtrack*. That's right, baby. Ohhh yeah.*Two Willie Nelson albums*, one live and one is the soundtrack for Electric Cowboy, which is a hilarious Robert Redford movie. ANDI got a double-disc CD by this band *Okkervil River*. Adam played it for me in the store and I, of course, decided that I HAD to have it. Seriously, I really fucking like it. The guy's got an awesome voice, and it's really mellow music but it's got a great sound. Been listening to it since I got home and I'm a fucking FAN. I'd never heard of them before, but maybe that was a fluke and I had my head in a hole in the ground or something. Who knows. But really, you should check them out - they're great. The double disc comes with an EP of theirs called the Black Sheep Boy appendix, and track #2 is really different, sort of rock and roll-y. Totally addictive. They describe themselves as post-punk folk, which is really pretty accurate at least in part. Aaaanyhow, here's the song I was talking about off the Appendix - "No Key, No Plan":http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/nokeynoplan.mp3 (right click and save, or click to stream). They have a lot of other mp3s up on their website, and you can click here http://www.jound.com/okkervil/mp3.html to check em out. Am I pushing them hard enough or what? Geez. I'll probably put it all up on multiply if I'm ever on the computer long enough again. So, that's my life. New records = best part of the week.Actually, fuck, I'll just put that mp3 on the post.

  1. caitlinbrrr says I would exactly call this "new music." Black Sheep Boy came out in 2005. It's still a great record.
