WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

look at all the love we found

*Badfish* was fucking amazing. We got there just as the 2nd opening act was finishing up, which is not something I normally do (I like to get my money's worth, dammit), but we decided our time would be better spent getting some chemicals into our bodies before the show, so I guess we got there around 10PM. Once again, it was a super-late show at the Norva, and we didn't get out until around 1AM. But GOD, was it fucking good.First of all, they're a *Sublime* cover band, so the entire show is full of songs that everyone knows. This means that most people (aside from those two drunk bitches that were near us before we moved) are in high spirits (pun intended) and friendly, with very little gross grinding of the 17 year olds. AND they covered *Zeppie*'s "Ramble On", which added immensely to their cool-points tally, because they a) didn't fuck it up, and b) made it into a SKA song without making it suck.AND I got a tank that says "LISTEN TO SUBLIME" on it (there was another one that said "I DON'T GET ANGRY WHEN MY MOM SMOKES POT", but I didn't think my mom would think that was funny, really) and when I asked how much it was, the guy said $20, and I got bummed and said, really just to complain to Jessica, "I only have $15," but the guy yelled "SOLD!" and threw it to me. Then the guy next to me tried the same thing and the merch guy told him to grow boobs. Ha.I think I'm going to make an entire series of "LISTEN TO" shirts. I have one that I made a long time ago that says "LISTEN TO JEFFERSON AIRPLANE" on it and I've decided that they really suit me - saves me the trouble of having to tell people all the time (although how weird is it that I made a shirt like that on a whim a few years ago and now they're turning up other places). I can just pick a band I wanna endorse that day and wear the shirt around.

  1. chucky says I *need* a shirt that says “I DON ’T GET ANGRY WHEN MY MOM SMOKES POT." Then I can wear that the next time I play my mother a song that says "gd" over and over again. Preferably, my boobs would also be pouring out of the shirt - I think I could actually get her head to explode. Haha, good times.

  2. Ray says That's cool that that guy gave you the shirt for fifteen bucks, the boob-less guy probably got pissed. I think it's kinda dumb to wear shirts that tell other people what to listen to, though.

  3. Lyla says well GOSH, i think it could be said that it's kind of stupid to hang out on a website and be told what to listen to and sometimes tell people what to listen to as well, but i think it's just a matter of taste. but hey, i love being called dumb. no really, thanks. my mother's head has actually exploded several times by now, but i'd just as soon rather not deal with the fallout all the time.

  4. chucky says I love to watch my mother get all flustered. I think it's kind of cute. Haha.

  5. Lyla says mine is definitely not cute when she gets into piss-mode. i think it's a real indication that we are completely different people. i swear sometimes she looks at me and you can tell just what she's thinking - "how can we POSSIBLY be related? where did you COME from?" it's funny, but not in a cute way.

  6. Ray says I never called you dumb, I only called wearing shirt like that were dumb. And as for your mother, build a fallout shelter, and pretend you were in Hiroshima.

  7. chucky says There was a time when my mother wasn't funny when she was pissed but that was back when she had some control over my life. At this point, she's mellowed some and when she starts to get pissed at me you can actually see the "aw just fuck it" look cross her face.

  8. Rawkkiddoh says Great song, great band. I got turned on to them when Badfish was on a comp I picked up to benefit the preservation of the ocean. It also had a then unheard of Blink 182. I think its called M.O.M. volume 1, and its solid all the way around.

  9. Lyla says go see Badfish, i'm still feeling bouncy from all the great music. i mean, in general i'm sort of not that into cover bands, but when it's a band that i'll NEVER get to see live, and the band really does try to stay true to the original songs, and you can tell that it's all about the love for the band and not some gimmick, i guess i'm not only cool with it, but i'll pay $20 to pretend it's a decade earlier.
