WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

i hate my best friends

Posted over 2 years ago
so, my best friend never listens to me. or rather, she listens to me, but years after i tell her something.prime example:she just called me to say, "i started listening to *the stills* and they're REALLY good.""i know, i told you that almost 2 years ago.""i know, but i just now listened to them.""but i put them on your computer FOREVER ago.""i know, but you know how i am."and i do. this much, i have to grudgingly admit.SHE DOES THIS ALL THE TIME. SHE CALLS ME AND ASKS ME FOR BAND RECOMMENDATIONS, AND I SPEND A LOT OF TIME WEEDING THROUGH MY STUFF, PUTTING MUSIC ON HER COMPUTER, AND ALL IN THE HOPES THAT ONE DAY, PROBABLY YEARS FROM THE TIME THEY SHOW UP IN HER MUSIC LIBRARY, SHE'LL DECIDE TO LISTEN.which is strangely ironic, as one of the lines from my favorite song on the album, "changes are no good", has the line, "i hate my best friends" (see title of post, ha.) i cannot find this song ANYWHERE to download, so try listening to the sample if they've got one; up in the tags.drives me nuts. like, a band i like will go on tour. and i'll tell her that she has to go see the show. and she doesn't. and two years later, she yells at me for not making her because she's just now getting around to listening. anyhow, her phone call made me want to listen to the stills, so i went and downloaded some tunes. i really, really like their first album, _Logic Will Break Your Heart_. i haven't been totally sold on _Without Feathers_ yet, but i don't think i've sat down and given it a solid listen.actually, the stills are one of my honest-to-god discoveries. i found them without meaning to, without having anyone ever mention them to me. they were streaming _logic_ on their website, and through some random internet accident i came across it and didn't even notice that the music had started playing until i realized i was tapping my feet. if i recall correctly, i went out that night and bought the cd. and actually, that's how i got into *the killers*, because adam, the guy at the record store, said i should try them out if i liked the stills (they're really nothing alike, so it was odd) and i said that i really didn't like the song they had on the radio because it was obnoxious ("somebody told me"), but he basically forced me into buying it and those were probably the only two cds i listened to for some months. so, i give you *The Stills*, in order of my favorites that i could find downloadable-y:"*Gender Bombs*":http://www.wakepics.com/~cramey/the_stills-02-gender_bombs%20.mp3"*Love and Death*":http://users.electrocity.ca/dru/stillsloveanddeath.mp3"*Lola Stars and Stripes*":http://www.mytlsp.net/yinyue/s/stills/Lola_Stars_and_Stripes.mp3(right click and hit "save as...." to ...well, save, or just click to stream)

  3. Lyla says i've never been good at describing music, but here goes: it's a solo-project, a guy with his casiotone and some other electronic shit, and recently he added more instruments, like guitars or something. it sounds kitschy, maybe, but it's really not - it's just the only instrument he knew how to play, at the time, and he does it WELL. the songs are actually complex, and in a good way - you're never like, "oh my god, FUCKING CASIOTONES!" or anything. i guess they could be called indie lo-fi electronica of sorts, but not really. my favorite song? "young shields":http://teamclermont.com/mp3/CFTPA_YoungShields.mp3 also partial to "new years kiss":http://gramosongs.com/New_Years_Kiss.mp3 and well, everything really. actually, they're another one of my finds - nobody ever mentioned them to me, but i ran across "etiquette" (latest album) online somewhere, and before i downloaded it, i just read a few reviews and figured i'd try them out, mostly because i liked the name. and i was sold. i have since bought the cd. and some others. nasty habit, downloading. yet strangely wonderful.
