Arcade Fire

In short, is as good as Canada gets right now. Even though Win was born in Texas and later moved to Montreal and Regine is Haitian and later moved to Montreal they still consider themselves Canadian and we should be proud of this. Extremely proud. Not only is this the best active Canadian band in my opinion, they are easily in contention for the best Canadian band of all-time.

Now, I know what you might be saying, Neil Young is also active and iconic Canadian. Don't be mad, I'll admit Fork In The Road is great as well, right back to old school Young. Not to mention, if you've seen Heart of Gold (the music DVD) Young really loves his music and puts endless production into it. Really commendable. However, if you want to see a music DVD that's up to par (at least) with Heart of Gold, look no further than Arcade Fire's newly released Miroir Noir. Detailing the recording of their second studio album, Neon Bible, and the ensuing tour, it is clearly evident that this band doesn't fool around when it comes to their music. They only want to deliver the best they could possibly put out and it really seperates them from other musicians.

So, if you were an Arcade Fire fan (and I'm not talking one of the hardcore followers like this band has plenty of, I mean the smaller fans, like me. The ones that knew Arcade Fire was great but didn't really know where to start or what to do about it) watch Miroir Noir. That'll about put you over the top. Words cannot express the appreciation I have for their artwork. I still wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan though. I mean, there's people that love this band so much, I can't really compare with them as of yet. All I know, Arcade Fire is one of Canada's greatest musical assets and everyone who appreciates music should, nay, needs to see Miroir Noir.

Thanks,

MWB II

P.S. A little background on the track I added. I never really enjoyed Neon Bible all that much until I watched Miroir Noir, but after that, it's been on constant repeat. There's this scene in the documentary where Win and Regine are in a glass elevator performing Windowsill on acoustic guitar. So incredible. Windowsill is in definite competition with my favourite Arcade Fire songs before it such as No Cars Go and Wake Up. Anyways, back on track, this version of Windowsill is off of the soundtrack to the film and its Win recording the demos for Windowsill and eventually fading into the final recorded version. Leaves me speechless every time.

Also, if you haven't already seen it check out the Blogotheque of them playing Neon Bible in an elevator as well... Arcade Fire and elevators... Don't know what it is, but magic happens every time.
