Yeah....not just a clever post. I say Tortoise last night in Ann Arbor...I got some cool video clips, but I am novice enough not to be able to post them on youtube...I'll try. It was a great show...although the median height seemed to be 6'6".....Tall fans those Tortoise Heads. The opener really blew everybody I went with back. David Daniell. and he was quite amazing. It was the first time I have seen ambient(good ambient) music played live. It was wonderful....we drank, talked and occasionally said.._This Is Freakin' Awesome!!_
Tortoise played with a vengeance. They completely pounded everything they did last night. The crowd was feeding them watts and lumens, jolts and volts of energy and they were converting it into furious music. I love that band. It is so hard for me to imagine getting something like that started....I can just imagine doing 15 minute avantgarde instrumental jazz at an open mic. Tough road but when your that good your gonna shine...........

Not to mention the instrument swap, or at least that happened when last I saw them. Unfamiliar with Daniell, so thanks for the link. Holler when that youtube thing gets worked out!

They are continually changing instruments....+1 to the wow factor.

Yeah, this show was rocking... it was nice when the bass player walked up to the mic and said 'this has been a fun show, thank you'... like, halfway through the night! Maybe he says that to all the crowds, but nice to hear given that they're about 2/3 through their tour schedule! And, sorry, I think I was one of those tall dudes. lol.

Yeah, I think he wouldn't have said that if something serious wasn't going down...I've never heard him speak.....I really thought like they were feeling it. I saw them at the majestic before and they didn't play with as much fury! Best Tortoise show I've seen...what'd you think of the opener??

I thought David Daniell was a roadie doing a sound check when he walked up to the stage! And then, that slowly evolving 30 minute post-rock fuzz just killed it! Especially with the 'burning planet' projecting behind him, almost makes me wish I was "on something" other than beer while he was playing! Very interesting. Definitely want to check out more David Daniell.
Maybe the smaller atmosphere of the Blind Pig gave them the energy, cuz the Majestic is one of my favorite venues. Rock on!
