Detroit Cobras New ALbum or The Best Cover Band Ever

Posted almost 5 years ago
I got my hands on the new Detroit Cobras album Tied & True. How is it? It sounds exactly like The Detroit Cobras. Putting all smarm and snark aside, the reason I say that is I have read much (mostly put forth by label Bloodshot) stating that it was this neo-Spector production unlike what they have done in the past. I was picturing a very Ramones a la _Turn of the Century_ album. The Detroit Cobras pop breakthrough? Please don't let it be! Be not afraid. I did hear a timpani in there on _Only To Other People_ but it is probably just some industrial burning barrel taken from a Woodward bum. It is very much The Detroit Cobras. Hand claps? Yeah...hand claps. Filthy sounding guitars? Yup, pure filth. Which ummm...means it is awesome. Have they made a bad album? No. So, if you are red faced slumped in front of your monitor, thinking how did I miss it? I'm better than that! Please, relax, you can buy any album. There are not any that disappoint. If you are a rabid fan like myself, then by all means pick this up and expect to have a half hour of beautiful garage soul on your hands. If you are fortunate enough to have seen a Cobras gig(+1 for living in Michigan!)you know that their shows are akin to The Who circa 1965. Please do not miss them, more energy than the sun. Tied and True isn't as ruthlessly raw as some of their past albums but it is without a doubt, The Detroit Cobras.

  5. Lowdown says Yeah Who '65 is a little far perhaps. The female Stooges?? What can I say I had just got their album and I was excited. Their live shows are really nothing like their albums though. You will never hear them the same after seeing them. I remember them playing You Don't Knock off 7 easy pieces(I think??) and the part with the kick drum just floored me. It was so powerful. They are such a powerful band...gotta love 'em! _As Long As I Have You_ is a killer track. One complaint-The album is too short!
