Dear Old MOG,

Posted over 2 years ago

Dear MOG,

I guess I'm not sure how to say this, I mean I don't even feel like I know you anymore. Remember how we met when I read in Rolling Stone that Mike Watt was hooking up with you? You were so different then. It seemed like Jolie Holland was the coolest person you knew, but you were still a wayward home for music junkies. Then Ben Gibbard showed up & I was stuck looking at his face for months. I knew you were changing, but I wouldn't admit it to myself. Remember MOG when your MOG-O-Matic made my computer crawl to slower-than-dial-up-speed? I didn't care MOG and neither did you, I needed everybody to know exactly how much Ween & Dylan I had on my hard drive, but I just don't feel I even know who you are anymore.

And you can stop right there-I know what you are going to say-'You fickle music hipster geeks! You have to do everything first, you were on MOG before everybody else. You were David Hyman's first trusted Mogger!!'

You can say whatever you want new MOG, but things between you and me just aren't the same anymore. We can still be friends, but I just can't go on pretending.

Your Friend,

Lowdown '06

Why? What's the lowdown on your disenchantment? Too crowded in the VIP?

Sorry-no disenchantment.  Just a poor attempt at a nostalgia joke & a nod to the folks who have been around for awhile (like yourself!) and actually know what I 'm talking about.

Ok, cool..welcome back. But,yeah, you are absolutely right..it's hard to recognize the place. The MOG-O-SPHERE is like 3 or 4 clicks away and almost nobody uses it anymore. Commenting is way down too.

hey, we never killed the old mog. you guys did.  turns out people didn't really want to talk about music as much as listen to it. listening to music is much more popular than talking about it.

I think that is the point really...listening that is.

Hope you were not offended by my attempt at an 'I remember when' joke.
