Seventh Tree

Hmmmm, where to begin... I picked up the new Goldfrapp album at the same time I got the new Morcheeba. I love both bands and although completely different, I got into them at the same time and for whatever reason tend to buy the new albums at the same time. This Goldfrapp album is quite a departure from previous efforts. There is much less of an electronic feel and much more of a folky feel. Don't get me wrong, this is not a folk album, but that is all I can come up with to compare it to previous albums. It is very catchy and in my opinion on the first listen very good. From the opening track "Clowns", which could have been released in the early 70's to "Caravan Girl", which sounds more like something which could easily have been put out in the 80's, to "Cologne Cerrone Houdini", which could have been released by the aforementioned Morcheeba, Seventh Tree takes the listener on a very good musical journey. If you are a Goldfrapp fan, I would definitely recommend this album, but just don't expect the it to be as electronicky (is that a word), as it seems to rely more on a traditional sound. If you haven't heard Goldfrapp before, its definitely worth a try, but if you are looking for catchy tunes to lounge/dance to, I would recommend Supernature or Black Cherry first... then again, as always is my way, I will probably really get very into this album after my third listen and beyond, and would recommend this album first.Just my two cents.J.
