So i've been listening to U2 again lately. Around the time I joined the youth group in church, junior high-ish, Rattle and Hum was out and my preacher's son was a big U2 fan. Growing up listening to mostly country, save the occasional ABBA 8-track in my dad's car, the Eagles... who were really country-ish for a long while, and the ever present King of Rock and Roll Elvis, i had never heard of them. I was informed they were awesome and i needed to check them out. So i rented Rattle and Hum on vhs, yes I am old, and fell in love. I immediately scrapped together pennies, dimes, dollar bills (not debit cards back then), and went out and bought the Joshua Tree. Man what an album.
anyway, what got me listening to them again were these videos i found on YouTube. And this post was inspired by the fact that Rattle and Hum is on MHD right now. Anyway, check out the vids.
ok so the others have embedding disabled so look for "Behind the song: Where the streets have no name" and "Behind The Song: U2 - Running To Stand Still" in the related videos sections. Some cool stuff there and a funny story about/by Brian Eno!

Number A): **Chuck Berry is the One True King**
2) **Rattle & Hum** found U2 flexing their muscles, spreading their wings, soaring up to where tall angels sing with heads in the clouds. Their infatuation with (American) roots music was just beginning to bloom. Their enthusiasm and the sonic textures of their lo-fi shimmer and slinky rhythms were bracing and refreshing, adding new colors to their signature sound.
7.5) Old is a state of mind.
there was about a two year time when I was all about U2, and it was right around when this album came out. I remember thinking "Desire" was just about the greatest song ever written at one point. Got Joshua Tree, which is a great album, heard some earlier stuff, which I also liked, and waited patiently for the new album, Achtung Baby, which I thought 100% blew. Years later I've grown to like a couple of songs off of that one, but at the time it basically killed any more desire I had to hear U2.
Desire, get it? Ha, I kill me!
