I’m not sure if this qualifies as mogging; it definiteley qualifies as shameless self promotion ;)
For the past three years (on and off, actually more off than on) I’ve been directing co-writing and producing a micro budget indie silm called.
What A Great Idea.
Well just a few days ago I finished cutting the first trailor and put it up on YouTube and I'm excited !…
All the music for the trailer is original music from my own collaborations, and it’s pretty cool music even if I do say so myself, so that’s MOG-worthy right?
Anyhow feel free to check out the trailer fellow Moggers

and don’t be shy if you want to comment here or on You Tube any feedback is welcome!

Considering the subject matter of my last blog perhaps it’s no surprise that I discovered The Redwalls and really like them.
Their 60’s 70’s influenced retro cool rockin sound is so Beatlesque it’s bordering on plagiarism on some songs… And the chorus of their song ‘Modern Diet’ even cheekily proclaims "They say it’s all been done before" while proving that although it may have all been done before; if you do it well and with conviction it still works

After viewing some of the live videos on You Tube it’s clear that they can deliver the goods and they’re not afraid to rock out; a feature of The Beatles that was overlooked by most of the American clones that followed the British Invasion of the sixties.
I would pay to see The Redwalls live.

interesting. i hadn't heard of them before, so thanks for the introduction. will keep my ears open for Redwalls...
i remember when their debut came out 2 or three years back everyone was comparing them to the Beatles, which i thought was the best compliment a band could get. the compliment made me expect a lot from them though, ultimately backfiring against the band cuz they never clicked to me on that level. its good to see they are still around and going strong...and i'm glad you posted this bc l did enjoy the footage.
Wow… it has been a long time since I mogged… well there are reasons; Firstly I spend far too much time online promoting my music projects (mainly AREA 27)… so by the time I’ve done the rounds on MySpace, Last FM, Facebook etc.etc. I’m exhausted and it’s hard to even find the time to be creative.
Another reason was I realized that while going through my old vinyl & CD collection (whats left of it that is) and writing about old gems was cool and in some ways made me feel young again. It doesn’t do much to change the fact that all the music I’m mogging about is from last century. This is not surprising since I will actually be half a century old myself later this year. So I’ve been making a point of checking out new artists (or at least new for me) so I think I’ll punctuate my posts about gems from the last century with the occasional rant or mention of a new discovery (at least new for me that is).
Fortunately I’m back in my hometown Melbourne Australia and we are blessed to have an all night… Music show called RAGE that actually plays music videos all night, no reality TV, no hyped up gossip about the latest elegantly wasted pop star. Just music, imagine that! And they are indie friendly...
I must admit that while there’s a lot of pretty cool sounding new stuff and artists that have emerged this century; very few of them have really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up or excited me in the way music I discovered in my youth or in my 20’s & 30’s did. And when there have been exceptions it’s often been limited to one song from any particular artist that really grabbed me and then a feeling of it’s alright or so, so after that.
Some of the stand out tracks/artists I’ve discovered recently are:
Time To Pretend by MGMT: This band really has a fresh lo-fi signature sound and exuberance that I’m drawn to, don’t mind their other songs either but ‘Time To Pretend’ is the gem in my humble opinion; makes me feel like I’m 16 again ;)
Strangers by Van She... Again one song stands out for me but this aussie band that wear there 1980’s influences shamelessly on their sleeves could be one to watch.
Just A Song About Ping Pong by Operator Please... Another aussie band and these kids have a big future if they can keep it together long enough, And if they don’t the lead singer/guitarist will probably have a great solo career. It’s still early days ‘cause they’re only a few years past puberty but they’ve already signed major deals and are currently touring the UK.
And while I’m on the Aussie band trip:
UFO by Sneaky Sound System… is a great track and along with Cut Copy they are leading the aussie assault on the world in the Electro Pop area.
On the more tender, D&M, moody side
Release Me by Laura… A track which was used for a recent SAAB commercial plucked my heart strings in a big way.
And
Leaving In Coffins by Psapp… really loving this quirky number and ‘Scissory’ another one of theirs is also very cool… I think this duo is one of the more interesting discoveries to emerge in the ambient, down-tempo, electronica experimental trip-hop arena this century.
Alright I think that’s mote than emough from me for one Mog.

Hmm, reminds me of a line from a Clint Eastwood film: "Good idea." (I think it's Chief Dan George in "The Outlaw Josey Wales") So, what happens next?
