WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Things I have learned by Mogging

Posted over 3 years ago
Look Ma! New music!I've been mogging for a week now and I've really enjoyed it. Sure, that could be because I am a music whore and find my taste in music completely enthralling and think that everyone else will too, or it could be because I am a sucker for a new audience, but mostly it is because in wandering the mog-o-sphere I have been introduced to an almost limitless source of tunage that I would have otherwise not known about. This makes me happy all the way to my pink parts. I am, by trade and by design, a visual artist. I am infinately jealous of any and all performing artists of the musical variety. Not because I wanna get up there and be seen and be a rock star. The thought of that alone makes me cringe. I just know how music influences my art and what a huge part it plays in my life and I covet the ability to make something that inspires others. Someday I will learn how to play the piano, but until then I'll stick to my painting. Here on Mog I have the opportunity to discover a whole new spectrum of music. This makes me happy for several reasons. I can find new things that can inspire me to greater heights in my own art. I can experience new genres that I have never had the chance to hear. I can share those finds with other people in my life who like the same types of music as myself. But most importantly, as a Southern woman I have the ability to form an opinion in mere microseconds and share that opinion with anyone who is unlucky enough to not be able to escape the sound of my voice. Mog gives me a limitless amount of music on which I can let my opinions run wild. Sure, I'll probably give most of the tunes a good long try before giving them the final thumbs up/down, but Ima tell y'all about them really quickly.Fortunately, another trait of Southern womaness is the ability to change our minds and admit we might have been hasty. I guess I'll just go ahead and apologize right now to get it over with.Lucky for me, the final thing I have learned by mogging is that this is one of those rare forums where the people in it recognize that it is all about opinions and are incredibly respectful of everyone else's. I am thrilled to be a part of a community that can do that and I will continue that tradition and treat people with the friendlyness and grace that has been shown to me.Wait, did that sound ass-kissy? Oh well, game on.

  2. Kate says I am with you, mamasita! Especially re: the fact that musical taste is purely a matter of opinion, and so far people are not spending most of their time on here talking shit about other people's taste. I can be very snobby about music that I like/don't like when i'm sitting around with friends, and while it's all in good fun, I don't think this should ever become a forum for holier-than-thou attitudes.

  3. Lola says i don't have an online gallery yet. i am just recently back in the game after a bout of artist's block that lasted nearly a decade. now i am just building up enough work to start a new portfolio because somewhere during that decade my style changed a lot. there is definately something to be said about growing older. you have a whole lot less fear. i have a few projects in the works now and would love some feedback and critiques as well. it's hard to find people in this area with the knowledge AND the willingness to help another artist out with feedback without any agenda. I am going to check out your online gallery now!

  4. DizzyLizzy says If you want me to look at some of your stuff, I am more than willing. Deviant Art is really a great way to get feedback, and it's fairly simple to figure out. However, if you don't want to deal with that right now (Which i don't blame you, Deviant Art is having some technical difficulties due to a new layout) you can just upload them to something like photobucket.com. I'd love to see your work! And please tell me what you think...Feedback is the best.

  5. Lola says i'd love another informed opinion! gimme some time to finish one or two of the six paintings i'm working on (yep, scatterbrained. if i don't at least start sketches or color studies for an idea right away i end up forgetting it.) get out my trusty cameraphone and do some uploading. btw, i loved your work on deviant art! the piano piece was my favorite. i love the fact that you have a good narrative aspect of each piece. it tells a story.
