Dude, I totally just fell out of my chair. I am a 31 year old, mostly respectable woman, an assest to my community even! With all of those attributes you certainly wouldn't expect to walk in and see someone like me bouncing and bopping around to Muddy Waters to the point where I bounce my own ass right out of the chair and on to the floor.

(Okay, if you know me in person you'd probably be more surprised if this was the first time this week I bopped my ass out of whatever position it was in and on to the floor, but those who only see the surface Lola might be surprised. Shut up, they MIGHT!!)

Either way it shocked the hell outta me. I guess I did my own Hoochie Coochie, huh? I think my dogs are laughing at me.

Okay, now I need an aspirin and to adjust the volume on my music. I'm thinking up. Loud enough for the neighbors to hear, but not loud enough to warrent a phone call to the cops. And I should probably check the dosage on that cough medicine I took a hour ago.

Look Ma! New music!

I've been mogging for a week now and I've really enjoyed it. Sure, that could be because I am a music whore and find my taste in music completely enthralling and think that everyone else will too, or it could be because I am a sucker for a new audience, but mostly it is because in wandering the mog-o-sphere I have been introduced to an almost limitless source of tunage that I would have otherwise not known about.

This makes me happy all the way to my pink parts.

I am, by trade and by design, a visual artist. I am infinately jealous of any and all performing artists of the musical variety. Not because I wanna get up there and be seen and be a rock star. The thought of that alone makes me cringe. I just know how music influences my art and what a huge part it plays in my life and I covet the ability to make something that inspires others. Someday I will learn how to play the piano, but until then I'll stick to my painting.

Here on Mog I have the opportunity to discover a whole new spectrum of music. This makes me happy for several reasons.

I can find new things that can inspire me to greater heights in my own art.

I can experience new genres that I have never had the chance to hear.

I can share those finds with other people in my life who like the same types of music as myself.

But most importantly, as a Southern woman I have the ability to form an opinion in mere microseconds and share that opinion with anyone who is unlucky enough to not be able to escape the sound of my voice. Mog gives me a limitless amount of music on which I can let my opinions run wild. Sure, I'll probably give most of the tunes a good long try before giving them the final thumbs up/down, but Ima tell y'all about them really quickly.

Fortunately, another trait of Southern womaness is the ability to change our minds and admit we might have been hasty. I guess I'll just go ahead and apologize right now to get it over with.

Lucky for me, the final thing I have learned by mogging is that this is one of those rare forums where the people in it recognize that it is all about opinions and are incredibly respectful of everyone else's. I am thrilled to be a part of a community that can do that and I will continue that tradition and treat people with the friendlyness and grace that has been shown to me.

Wait, did that sound ass-kissy? Oh well, game on.

I am with you, mamasita! Especially re: the fact that musical taste is purely a matter of opinion, and so far people are not spending most of their time on here talking shit about other people's taste. I can be very snobby about music that I like/don't like when i'm sitting around with friends, and while it's all in good fun, I don't think this should ever become a forum for holier-than-thou attitudes.

A fellow artist of louisville!

I know exactly what you mean when you say that music can greatly inspire your art. It inspires mine as well. Do you have an online gallery for your work? Deviant Art or something? Check mine out if you care to take a look :D I love being critiqued by people who actually know what they're talking about! http://xlizx.deviantart.com

I think it was the fact that my mother used to rifle through my room as soon as I left for school when I was a kid that did it. That is the only reason I can come up with that can explain why I am compelled to give the playlists on my iPod such bizarre titles. I feel the need to keep something sacred, even if someone comes into my realm under the guise of cleaning and rummages and reads things not meant for mothers' prying eyes. (whew, guess that spot was more tender than I thought, huh? You'd think a few decades would have dulled the pain of invasion of privacy.)

If someone happened upon my iPod and turned it on (assuming I didn't immediately discover them and kick their ass) they would find such enigmatic titles as; Summer Sing, Summer Song, Enjoy, Comet, 90, Blue, Boys and Blondes, New, and Sunday Morning. Okay, so what with my admission of my love for all things *NSYNC it probably isn't tough to decipher the Boys and Blondes one, however, admitting what the GIANT difference is between Summer Sing and Summer Song might make someone's brain bleed. Fear not, I'm not gonna tell you.

Being the resident music nerd in my circle of friends, I make a whole lot of mix cd's and send them out whenever I make myself drag ass to the post office. I make mixes a lot, but go to the post office less than I go to high school reunions so whenever a friend gets a package from me it usually weighs eleventeen thousand pounds and contains a spindle of mixes. Much to their amusement, I title my mix cd's like I title my playlists. Fortunately, their brains work a lot like mine so it is rare that someone asks what the titles mean. (the current favorite Lola Mix cd title was for my Tasty friend when she finally threw herself out of a bad marriage to a McDonald Land character. It was titled "I Can Do Better" Self explainitory.)

Here's a tip. If you get a cd from me and are baffled as to why I would make a mix including Prince, Al Green, and Etta James and title it "IT" then you aren't thinking hard enough.

All the above rambling leads up to one question. It build upon the old Desert Island question but this one leaves a bit more wiggle room. You are stranded on a desert island in a location that experiences all 4 seasons. You can bring 4 mix cds; Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Give me one song for each cd.
