WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Here is the House - Time for a Black Celebration !!!

Posted over 2 years ago
*"Is there anything better than _your_ first official bandcrush ???"* This is a question I've asked myself in the recent past. Until last night I couldn't really answer the question (at least, couldn't for these past 10+ years). I listened to other bands before Depeche Mode, but when I first heard *Somebody* it was instant attraction - the purest & truest of love. Snatched up everything they had after listening to *+Some Great Reward+* I found there wasn't a song on it I didn't adore, that didn't speak to every fiber of my being. All that I had of the older albums, (prior to Violator), was on cassette, so after switching to CD, I didn't listen to those albums as much. You know how it goes, you get into buying the lastest & greatest. It's not that the love dies - it just kinda turns into a musical *_Velveteen Rabbit_* of sorts. So last night I had to get a new monitor for the 'puter as the idea of not being able to MOG practically killed me Sunday night when it died suddenly. I made a detour to the local Barnes & Noble with my $50 gift card in hand & headed directly to the music & movie section. Velvet Goldmine on DVD less than $10 dollars - YES PLEASE !!! Then, I tried to think of an album or three that I would want to have, but I insisted that it be a non-new release... hmmmmm, let's see. What have I wanted to replace on CD because either the CD _walked off_ during college never to return or was on tape & I haven't liste -h1. DEPECHE MODE !!!!Worried they wouldn't have the albums prior to Violator, I *RUN* to the D section.Ahhhhh they have a gazillion DM albums for me to peruse. Special Edition *+Black Celebration+*, _TWIST MY ARM_ Special Edition *+Music for the Masses+*; uh oh, can the person up at the register see me getting all flushed & hear my breath quickening ??? Some Great Reward. h1. CHECK PLEASE :) !!!!!!Also picked up the Tori Amos book - $6.00, that's almost criminal - but I am not going to complain... wanted it - it's mine !!!I was shaking as I went to the register. In total need of a cigarette, _too bad I no longer smoke_ ;) The cashier giggled when I told her what it meant to have these three albums back in my possession. Talked with her for a good 10 minutes about MOG as well. That's right kiddies - anywhere I go, if I meet someone who might share our addiction, I tell them about MOG. She just got the Amy Winehouse CD & wondered what I thought of it - *"GENIUS"* !!! We talked about "*Dale's 10 best 2007 Post*":http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/91726 & she asked what was on my list of 10... gave her a rough rundown, Delorentos, Ryan Adams, Arcade Fire, Once: Motion Pic Soundtrack, Decemberists, Tori Amos (just missed my top 10 - but she wondered what I thought of her), Nine Inch Nails, Wilco... etc. She was thrilled, saying her brother is even more of a nut than she is & she couldn't wait to tell him about the site as well.*Heheheheh - TWO for the price of ONE coming over to the MOGside !!!*My work there was done... but she told me the next time I was in the neighborhood I had to stop by so we could talk more about MOG - as she & her brother would be MOGgers at that point... *_You know it girlfriend*, three snaps in a "Z" formation !!!_Well since getting home last night, all I've done is listen to my beloved first bandcrush & I have to say... the years haven't dulled this love - looks like I am capable of an *_extremely_* longterm relationship... good to know for future reference ;) I can't see this love ever lessening, wouldn't know what to do if it did. As soon as I put +*Music for the Masses*+ in the player, I was instantly transported back to grade school. I remember being at camp & having the counselor tell me about +*Black Celebration*+ & +*Some Great Reward*+, she even gave me her copies... Amy was by far my favorite & THE COOLEST counselor evah, cuz there is nothing cooler to an only child than an older teen who sees the potential music junkie in you & helps expand your horizons with other albums, bands etc. She became my kickass older sister & we would sit & talk for hours about the New Wave movement... our shared love of *The Cure, New Order, The Smiths & _obviously_ Depeche Mode*. Wonder how she's doing, what she's been up to - who she's rocking in her stereo/mp3 ? Maybe she's on MOG; If so, h1. THANK YOU AMY !!!!Here's hoping you feel me as much as *_I Feel You_*, but it's time to get *_Stripped_* & ignore the television ;) *_Enjoy the (non) Silence_* & the videos below... +*Here is the House*+*+Never Let Me Down Again+**+Somebody+**+Waiting for the Night to Fall+**+One Caress+*

  1. Rawkkiddoh says Ah yes the band crush, my first was New Order but you already knew this. Might have to put some on as I crawl into bed for my afternoon nap. Seems like super hot weather and playing at the park have taken its toll on ole rawkkiddo, sleep is in my near future

  2. Dale says OK, seriously Lizzie, get the heck outta my head! My high school experience was consumed with mostly Depeche Mode and The Cure. The first time I heard "People Are People", I was hooked. OK, Robert and the boys still count as my +first+ band crush, because when I fell for them, I fell *hard*, but Depeche Mode is right after them. So many experiences; seeing the Music for the Masses tour with about 80,000 of my closest friends, practically running to the record store to buy Violator right after my mission (you have no idea the agony it caused when I found out they had released an album while I was gone).

  3. The Serenity Vortex says The Sisters of Mercy were the first true band to really grip me. The first few minutes of putting on Floodland actually did change my life. Music fever had gripped me and I had to find the next rush from a new band. Pop Will Eat Itself were the next :) Depeche Mode were also very much liked by me during this time as well. For some reason though Depech Mode and U2 got muddled up in my mind (I have no idea why!) and to this day, even though I know, they still share the same space in my head X)

  4. Augusts1 says My first musical obsession wasn't close to being as cool but I too fell in love w/Depeche Mode when I encountered their "Some Great Reward" tape. I think I found it somewhere abandoned but don't recall exactly whered now(can you imagine abandoning it?) Loved their sacrilegious lyrics & S&M references.

  6. Lizziegreeneyes says *August:* I swear... while listening to the lyrics off Music for the Masses & Black Celebration - I could also hear a lot of drug references... gotta love a band that can make a song bout drugs sound like a song about driving & sex ;) Totally went over my head when I listened back in the day. abandoned Some Great Reward... perish that thought ;) !!!! & any musical obsession is a good one, don't care what it is. *Ash:* Hellz to the yiz-eah I was... always pimpin out the MOG - that's what a _*PIMPette*_ does !!!

  8. HelenMarie says I am totally diggin on Never Let Me Down Again up there. I feel like I'm being pulled in different directions with my thoughts... I was hooked on U2 a while ago (boy flood-i here ya), Tori Amos was it for a while, then Incubus's Science hit me really good, and then Tool and then Modest Mouse and now I'm crushing on Mog for hooking me up with all this new stuff.

  9. Lizziegreeneyes says *SunshineDaydream:* U2 Rattle & Hum & before especially War. Tori - always :) Incubus Science is a brilliant album Mike + Brandon = Me LIKEY, but I really do like all of their stuff. Tool also have a piece of my blackened soul - always have, MOG has the rest - so I hear you !!!
