_*... Who's with me ???*_ ;)Once again a Perfect Day... so two videos for the price of one... Charles Mingus. I would have gladly been his *sinner lady* :)*+Perfect Day _in PA_+* (the unofficial title ;) _the video is a little rough around the edges... but I dig edgy.*+Mingus+*"In 1963, Mingus released The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, a sprawling, multi-section masterpiece, described as "one of the greatest achievements in orchestration by any composer in jazz history." [7] The album was also unique in that Mingus asked his psychotherapist to provide notes for the record._7. ^ The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. Album overview on All Music Guide. The above I've taken directly from the WIKI - LOVE that site... can you dig it ??? I knew that you could !!!*Do yourself a favor & get *_The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady_* ... it is sheer blissful brilliance magnafied & unparalleled.*The painting below is by +_Bruni Sablan._+ *I am in awe.* CLICK "*Bruni Sablan and MINGUS*":http://www.brunijazzart.com/biobruni.html to see more - you really should... found her by accident. 5. Lizziegreeneyes says *August:* Awww yeah !!! Hadn't thought of the PJ - thank you !!! Sweet addition. She tore it up at the EP last year ! She kinda scares me a little - think that's why I like her so much... enigmatic ! The visuals in the video are nothing short of spectacular !!! *Lester:* You da man !!! *2S:* Yeah - she blew me away. I have two pieces with jazz/blues: Birdman Charlie Parker & Muddy Waters... would love to have one of hers as well... but the moolah it would take to get one... yeah, think the web will do just fine ;) Thanks... The guy could *_play_* the bass, *could watch clips of him for hours !!!*

  16. Cody B says I love Mingus(Ah Um, Candid Sides), but I still have not been able to come to grips with Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. I do have it and I'm sure at some point the "click" will happen..Same for Tijuana Moods. I don't mean to be a bummer on this Picture perfect ,Perfect Day Post, but there it is. I realize I have a problem..Nice day in Brooklyn, too.

  18. goodmusiconly says Nice post, Lizzie. The artwork reminds me of an artist that painted at an old french bistro I used to work at. Saturday nights were live jazz night in the basement, and he would paint the musicians while they played. _Very_ cool. Cheers on another beautiful day!

  19. Lizziegreeneyes says Thanks Erin - hope you're having the same. I would have loved to see the artist in action during a Saturday night jazz session.

  20. Mike the Knife says Such a contrast between Lou and Mingus, but greatness is not easily pigeon-holed. Summer in the City (of Brotherly Love), huh? Um...er. Which way to the White Horse Pike?
    Permalink posted 06/24/2007
  21. Lizziegreeneyes says Brotherly love is a bit off as of late - news says we are over the 200 murders mark this June. You know me *Mike* love to keep me _and you_ on all our collective toes... Yeah, White Horse Pike... uh, erm... that's Jersey - right ;) I'm more into the Black Horse................................. oh, yeah the PIKE, Black Horse Pike ;P

  22. I am says Wow Mingus .... I must say by himself he is way to cerebral. Charlie Mingus was plagued by mental health issues all of his adult life and it shows in his music. He has such a unique approach to composing that, if you put two pieces together side by side one Mingus and one by someone else, it would be easy for even a non jazz listener to pick him out. My love/hate relationship begins with Sinner Lady. I have a hard time listening to some things all the way up to Mingus Moves. I am with Cody, the "Angry Man" takes some getting used to. I prefer the Mingus who collabs. with other artists. It gives the music someone to bounce against. Great Vid choice , Liz. And Tanx.

  23. Lizziegreeneyes says Yeah... I can see your point - couldn't get a good clip & suck at getting an mp3 up here. I do love me some Sinner though ;) His psychologist wrote the liner notes for Black Saint...

  24. kat3260 says You know, I often want a time machine to visit the days of Lou Reed, the Summer of Love, and all that...but I forget about how grand it would've been to be around for the jazz era in the 40s & 50s. Mingus was a great soul - incredible on the double bass. *WOW*
