    The Freshmen
I realize that some of you may have gotten sick of *_The Freshmen_* its first go around. That's cool. I know it was a constant for me, not just on all the local radio stations, but from every cover band at every seedy college bar in the West Chester & the surrounding areas. I *NEVER* grew tired of this song, never grew tired of it's original album - *Villians*. *+NEVER+* !!! In fact it is ALWAYS on constant rotation for me, as are all his solo albums. For my mind, I think that *Brian Vander Ark* has one of the most *intense, passionate & powerful voices out there*. +PERIOD+. I always have. I see him every time he's in Philly (lest I have prior engagements that can't be changed). World Cafe Live loves him & for that I am truly thankful.I can't say enough good things about him as a songwriter & as a musician/vocalist. What I can do is re_*fresh*_ your memory of *The _Fresh_men*. But with a twist you may not have seen coming - especially if you haven't listened since your local crapass radio stations overplayed the hell out of it.This ain't your old school Freshmen kiddies, that's for damn sure !!!If you could see him perform this live, even once, you would know what I know. DO yourself a favor, pick up *_Within Reach_*, a live solo disc of Brian Vander Ark's... among others - not a bad one in the bunch - can't wait for what comes next !!!You can head to "*THIS SITE*":http://www.brianvanderark.com/ He's got all sorts of great info there along with his cds.I know him to be very _*"Colorful"*_ :)

  1. Tallpo says Okay - Brain V-Ark does have a good voice - and some good lyrics but that acoustic video clip you attached to this MOG post lacks some of that beautiful gee-tar which accompanies the deep vocal sound in the original. My son Thom says this as he sits on my lap and listens "asklsg snklsdfnsdf'iower". I assume it means "What you said Papa".

  3. Lizziegreeneyes says Cuz ya wonderful doofusssssess, he *DOESN'T NEED TO* play a dang guitar... now maybe you're not catching how friggin genius this a capella version is - for that I am REALLY sorry - a capella is a *bitch* to pull off (trust me), that's why it's up here. I wanted to prove what his vocals can do *all on their own* !!! Now I know for a fact Po - you hardly ever sing (& Tobey has BETTER taste than you do - thanks to his Auntie) - well try singing without anything to help cover any flaws in your vocal delivery. Now multiply that by a lot - cuz when you have lights on you & people watching & you have to deliver... you might not... do it. Plus - the song was overplayed - so he's giving it a totally new feel when playing it at every show... imagine what it's like to play the same song OVER & OVER & OVER again !!! Po, if you think I will ever lend you another BVA disc - you are SORELY mistaken... so, when do I get to meet the newest edition ;P You know I adore the both of you, but I can't _+believe+_ you can't hear what I hear in his vocals on the Freshmen... he floors me every time I listen. Now, since you both aparently need a guitar to help you, I will give you another of his solo songs with acoustic because _*I Don't Want to be a Bother*_... Nothin but love guys - but seriously - you let me down ;)

  4. kat3260 says Bravo, bravo! Both videos = superb. BVA is looking pretty hot, especially the hair. Mmm. I found the box with my old CDs last night, and Villians was sitting right on top. It's a sign, I tell ya. I'm gonna rip that sucker to my hard drive TONIGHT!

  5. Lizziegreeneyes says YAY !!! Glad you liked it - you were the impetus for the post - when you commented on the overplayed Freshmen... I wanted you to hear this version & hopefully find some love for it again :) You have to see him the next time he's in your locale - you will be floored by his stage presence !!! I gots a package... I am so jamming out at my desk right now... Edie (I LOVES ME SOME EDIE) !!! Before that, one of my all time faves from the Dead... I am not the biggest Head by a long shot - but the songs of theirs I love - I really LOVE... Shakedown & most of the Arista years - blow my mind :)
