WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

**DAG**, I just got _*SCHOOLED*_ by my pod

Posted over 2 years ago
Maybe you've had this amazing phenomenon occur when listening to your iPod on _SHUFFLE_.If it +HAS+ happened to you ... let's discuss ... comment/post away campers ... Now, I have to say, I think I make a decent mix tape (CD - it just doesn't sound right), but there are days when I swear I must talk in my sleep - & the pod is _*ALWAYS*_ listening ...On my ride to work & ride to the Drs office, I did my own version of shuffle - picking songs here & there that _suited my fancy_ (da heck is it wit dat phrase anyway) ??? It was great fun. I've also had my own recent mix that I made for "Sir RainyDayMusic":http://mog.com/Rawkkiddo (he spelled it wrong on his site - but we'll let it slip - it's a recent Knighthood) ;) Kev - is Waldorf a reference to the Muppets ? ! ? ! I about fell out of my chair when I saw that this morning ! :)I've also had his mix for me on constant rotation - it's **AMAZING** ... Being that it is a mix that was made for me by a dear MOGFriend - it does *_NOT_* enter this picture - a mix from a friend made especially for you is **+ALWAYS+** the best kind of mix there is - _Insanely Intuitive iPod_ can't even attempt to compare !!!! So, I get in my car, pay the kind parking attendant - _( because it's not enough I have to pay a co-pay & then sit & wait over a 1/2 hour for someone who would charge me if I was late or missed an appointment ... if you're going to schedule me - have the friggin decency to stick to the time AGREED upon ... n'kay KYLE ???)_ I guess that is an issue I'm a little passionate about ;)Right ... I decide it's time for the Pod to *_"Show Me What You Got"_*. I hit shuffle & await the first selection for my listening pleasure ... Here's the 9 (YUP - I ended on 9 - it's when I pulled into the parking lot at work - ( ... I keep telling you people it's ALMOST always 9), songs that iPod threw at me ... my jaw - on the car floor with the beginning of each new song - then I was singin' (really loudly - is there any other way when your in your car ???? ) & car-booty shakin' for all I was worth ... Voila ... presto-chango ... I give you the list that SCHOOLED LizzieGreen ... 1. Evergreen - The Frames (if you've read some of my posts - this is my most favoritest band), plus Ever*GREEN* I mean, *_HELLO PEOPLE_* - Lizzie*GREEN*eyes2. Territorial Pissings - Nirvana - yay loud angry song !!! Too bad I was in a section of the Main Line that has way TOO many stop lights - didn't stop the singin' & car-booty shakin' though ... nothing ever does :)3. Character Zero - Phish - another car-booty shaker to say the least ;) This is such a BRILLIANT song live ... memories with dear friends & really, REALLY _kind_ times ... ah yoot, ain't it grand & all too fleeting !4. Blue in Green - Miles Davis - ooh - changing it up - nice selection - one of my favorites of his as it is off the first album of his I heard - fell in LOVE with jazz that night - & the unattainable boy who played it for me - ahhh unrequited love :) _(again - with the GREEN)_ ;)5. Push - The Cure - back to car-booty shaking ... nice long instrumental beginning - then boy was I singin' the hell outta this one - I *_needed_* The Cure right then - didn't know it til Pod played it for me ... just a little ooogie :)6. Clark Gable - The Postal Service - another tasty selection - at first I wasn't sure it was what I wanted to hear (_almost_ skipped it - but I had to see this through - I should know better than to doubt the Pod ... the Pod **ALWAYS** knows7. Want - Rufus Wainwright - perfection - this is from the first album of his I ever bought - I know, I was a late-bloomer to the RW, but I am so on the train now :) so NONEUS WORRYOUS !!!8. Beware! Criminal - Incubus - I've LOVED this band for over 12 years, my tightest (at the time) friend's brother got a demo tape of theirs from a surfer friend ... we played it for the entire trip PA - OBX ... then the trip back OBX - PA. That's _ALL_ we listened to - it was so totally different (such an amalgam of styles) - Stopuglynailfungus Music On Chillum - **WISH** I still had that tape ... he copied it for all of us - I lent it to someone ... you know the rest :( I gots ta give up some major props to Einziger - that kid plays a **MEAN** guitar. He's high on my list of impressive axemen :)9. When You Gonna Learn (Digeridoo) - Jamiroquai - awwww hellllllz yeeeeah !!! Another favorite band of mine ... Can't wait to see what's next - number 10 _hear_ I come.Schooled the heck outta me, that iPod of mine ... friggin scary-cool !!!

  4. Jonh Ingham says I'd left the Pod on the shelf for a couple of months, then decided to take it with me yesterday. I'm always on Shuffle coz it's nice to be surprised. Fired it up and had a similar thought to you...OK, are you gonna play those same old tracks you always throw at me? Next thing I know I'm getting Timbaland, Elmore James, Franz Ferdinand, Zep, Connor Oberst, Art Tatum....it was sooo from left field I was getting as excited as you can get on the London Underground and not look like a stalker about to go ultraviolent on the cute Pod listener opposite. I got so zoned I missed my station! (I hate that - it's really hard to look cool when you get off and walk over to the other platform to go back.)

  5. gympumpkin says I love when Shuffle just seems to know what to play for you. My favorite moments occur when the song that comes on completely fits my surroundings, as if someone actually put thought and was making a soundtrack to a film. Of course, more often than not, I have to skip through 748274382 songs before I find one I want to hear, and Shuffle is playing a joke on me.

  6. Lizziegreeneyes says *iwantto* … total lack of sleep the past three weeks due to MOG – this place & all y’all are like my own personal crack or heroin … I don’t think I’ll ever give it up – hope I don’t OD. We had a slip-up people … Track 18 of shuffle was “track 7” on Paste sampler 15 – however, a truly amazing save with: This Flight Tonight Joni Mitchell BLUE & Here With Me – Dido (say wot you want bout Dido – I like very much her first album – only one I own … she has an Everything But The Girl quality to the music on this album … great electronic backing, & sometimes – that’s exactly what I wanna hear !!! Beth Orton though – she’s the bestest ... I hope iPod hears this … ;) *Jonh* ...**_THE_ Tube** – only the BEST underground system ever !!! Metro in Paris – close second – their entrances are so purdy … I’ve had that mishap occur when traveling The Underground – thank goodness I can (for the most part) chalk it up to “tourist” – but I’ve been to London quite a few times & studied there for a little while when at University … so as long as people don’t know this … it’s acceptable – anyone who’s aware of my edumacation – they rip me a very new one, rightfully so :) If you have to miss your stop – there is NO BETTA reason than a lovely listener opposite & killer tuneage !!!! This is a FACT – not an opinion … also – reading a great book & totally engrossed – that’s somewhat acceptable :) *Dale* & *Nicole* - I hear you both ... but with all the dang new music you people _**MAKE**_ me buy ... that's right, I am totally transferring my guilt to MOG - I still have so many I've yet to listen to - let alone give them my **"_9_ listens"** People - can we give *Andrea (guypumpkin)* an Amen collectively, **Amen** :)

I am *SOOO sorry* your experience has killed any possible enjoyment - I hate when that happens - _especially_ if it is in any way related to MUSIC !!!

  11. Marigold says Ha! Fun post. I do not have an ipod. However, I have had an occournce that you did not refer to but I wonder if this has happened to you? Sometimes when putting my computer hd on random I will be completly surprised by a disc sitting on my hd that I never really got a chance to sit around and listen to. That happened to me recently with the band "Elbow" I am pretty familiar with Leaders of the Free World but I just never got around to listening to "Asleep in the Back". I forget now which song made me stop what I was doing and walk over to my computer and look to see what the hell was playing. Since then, (a few months ago) I have had a hell of a time getting that thing out of my cd player.

  13. Lizziegreeneyes says Shuffle rocks if for only *one* reason - though I can think of loads ... it's like the *_BEST_* radio station - catered to me alone - I like if not LOVE every single song & NO commercials - I don't think I could do XM cuz it doesn't cater just to me ... but then there's the ... well you'd find new artists argument - to which I retort ... that's what MOG does in spades, that & sooooo much more :) Marigold - I can one better you - I've put the pod on shuffle - come across a song I _don't_ know & realize I must have put an album on it that I didn't know I had ... now that's scary :) Either that or Kevin is coming over late at night & downloading albums to my iPod just to mess with my head ;) But YES - that happens all the time - then when I get around to it - I lurve it !!! Can't imagine what _took_ me sooo long :)

  17. I am says Liz you want to get schooled by your ipod? 1. Dump a boatload of music on to it and I don't mean just the stuff you know by heart, but the song you have been meaning to listen to. 2. go to main menu. 3. select Extras 4. Hit Games 5. Play Music Quiz My ipod made me feel like school in the summer time. I had no class. I change my music almost every other day or so. Music Quiz helps me to remember song title and artist names. I am with derm. Rod and the 'nana hammock had to go.

  18. Lizziegreeneyes says I am: RIGHT - that game KICKS MY ARSE up and down the court (if I played basketball) ... but it does exercise the musical song title/artist name part of my brain ... Awwww comeon - I don't _like_ Rod - but that pic - it's toooooo perfect - the guy actually thinks he's (& it hurts me to say this more than it hurts you) sexy & we want his body ... It's gonna rear (tee hee) its ugly head (tee hee _squared_) every once in a blue moon (now I'm just getting silly) - so be forewarned ... I can post a warning with a T-Minus countdown if you'd like ;) & I still say ... blame "this guy":http://mog.com/Lyrikhan ... Now do you two need me to let you know when I plan to put up my Andy Gibb or naked Rage Against the Machine pics ??? - or is it just the ROD you want spared ;)

  19. I am says Liz, maybe you could manufacture a black bar, about waist high. You know to preserve anonymity. Kinda of like Wendy O from the Plasmatics with her electrical tape. In other news I was scheduled to go to a school board meeting in your neck of the woods today. But it fell through at the last minute. I was hoping to hit Victory Brewing for a few "hand pulled" (smirk) brews this evening. Ahhh, Hop Devil is truly a nectar of the Gods!

  20. Rawkkiddoh says Love it when that happens, and yes waldorf is in reference to the muppets character. A while back another mogger and I made seperate pages with those two guys pictures, and we would take over posts insulting eachother. It was fun, but I found it took up too much time and I had to kill waldorf. By the way, what did I do wrong with my new name?

  21. Lizziegreeneyes says I am - next time you make it to Victory - first one's on me ... just let me know :) I swear that shit wrecks me the following morning/afternoon/week - & yet I keep going back ... plus I just loves me some Bill & Ron. Two of the coolest hippies in a "we're making a lot of money doing what we love" kinda way ;) Plus it finally allows the woman to say to him - hey - your carpet doesn't match the drapes ;) Awww yeahhhh - always wanted to say that to a guy :) I'm a brunette - we _always_ match ... ;) Sir Rainy+D+ay+M+usic - RDM MUST be capitalized er else - you'll draw too much attention to yourself & the queen will get really angry - you see, she's the only one supposed to hand out "knighthoods", but really - her days are numbered (shaa, as if ... I'm not worthy) ;)

  22. Lizziegreeneyes says I am so loving the idea of you & someone else using up MOGspace to throw insults at each other - if there is ONE show from my childhood I would pay GOOD money (is there a bad kind) to have back, it's the Muppets ... I sat mesmerized in front of the TV as a kid for that show - AWESOME doesn't even begin to cut it ... gonna have to get the DVD for my nephews (I mean for ME to watch with my nephews - actually I mean - get the DVD for ME) !!! ;)

  23. Rawkkiddoh says It was pretty funny when we were doing it, on one post we had over 100 comments between the two of us. Then other moggers took on the other muppets, and there was even a post that the muppets had invaded MOG. This is what happens when I have too much free time. As for the knighting, well since I will not be heading to england anytime soon, I will wait until you do it yourself...........by the way whats the deal with July 16th

  24. Lizziegreeneyes says TOOL Reading PA - Will, Ian & Katrina are trekkin up north to go see TOOL with me ... I haven't seen TOOL since undertow & the Lollapalooza of ... what ... '93 I think ... so long ago - & I need sleep ... so quit it ;) The best part is that there is this HUGE Jehovah's Witness convention going on a few days before & a few days after at the arena where TOOL will be performing ... Will & I found this to be especially amusing - add to it the fact that Reading has one of the larger skinhead white supremacist underground organizations - we got ourselves a real nice party in the mix ;)
    Permalink posted 05/24/2007
  25. kat3260 says Hey...how come ya'll didn't tell me about this Jehovah's Witness convention? And last I read, skinheads HATE the Jehovah's Witnesses, well they hate everyone but anyway...that should be interesting...

  26. Lizziegreeneyes says by party I meant - there's the real potential for a few dead bodies - but I think the skinheads will be cool with the TOOLites :) Kat - I totally accept responsibility - figured both of those goons would have told you about it at some point - _silly me_ - I should know better ;) When I first saw that on the locale's website - I thought I'd lose it - actually I did for a few minutes - laughing almost to the point of unconsciousness :)

  27. Marigold says I saw mention on Victory Brewing in this thread. You must be from PA Lizzie. I am a HUGE beer nerd. I am jealous of your proximity to Victory. I have some good micro around here so I can't complain. Just had to give "good beer" props when I see em. Carry on.

  28. Lizziegreeneyes says It's a 3 minute drive from my place ... I am such the beer SNOB - obsessed with Belgian or Belgian style beers especially !!! I scoff at people who drink BUD - (for those on MOG who do ... _scoff scoff_ ). The snobbery transfers over to wine as well - hard liquor, not so much - I really don't drink the _HARD_ hard stuff ... wine & beer ... As my girl Dot Parker would say ... _Candy is Dandy, but Liquor is Quicker_. Another of her gems, _Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses_. Dang, it's a good thing I got Lasik then ;). I remember reading this one in highschool ... not the best thing to give angst-ridden, misery-ridden, tempestuous teenagers - then again - they had us read _A Separate Peace_, _The Scarlet Ibis_ & _Romeo & Juliet_ not the most life-affirming reads ... I just love her turn of phrase - she was hardcore - I **so totally** respect that ... Raise the roof for Ms. Parker yo ... I remember going to the Algonquin & checking out that "Vicious Circle" oh to have been a fly on that wall - if only for a few moments :) **Résumé** Razors pain you; Rivers are damp; Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren't lawful; Nooses give; Gas smells awful; You might as well live.

  29. Marigold says Just so you can have some perspective on my beer snobiness. So far tonight: Rodenbach New Glarus - Raspberry Tart Full Sail Brewing - LTD edition batch #2 Heather Ale - (Home Brewed) Abby Val Dieu - Abby Ale Balist Point Brewing - IPA Pee Pilsner - (Home Brewed) Brooklyn Brewing - Brooklyn Lager yeah...I am feeling good now. Some of those were shared 750ml bottles though. I think I am a wine snob as well I just dont ever drink it. Hard stuff does not exist to me.

  30. Lizziegreeneyes says That is **great** ... could you spare a bottle or two of the Pee Pilsner ;) too funny. Here are a few that I am partial to: Chimay, Abbaye de Leffe, Hoegaartten, La Fin du Monde, Delirium Tremens, La Morte Subite, Spotted Cow, BULMERS (technically a cider) Magic Hat #9 - there's that 9 again :) to name but a few - Victory beers - really any of them - go without saying.
