WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Ever Fallen in Love ?

Posted over 2 years ago
Right, so I know this is probably a redundant post ... & I know this is a song constantly covered by so many different bands the list must be endless at this point ... but has that _ever_ stopped me before ... *NOPE !!! ;)*I still remember the day in jr high, very sunny, on the back of the bus heading home ... Mike Smith, the youngest & cutest of the Smith clan had me give it a listen. He had already introduced me to Dead Kennedys & Suicidal Tendencies & the Sex Pistols ... I got him to check out the Descendents ! But on this sunny day in particular, on the back of the bus, he played me this song, & it forever changed my opinion on love songs ... I always thought it had to be _Lionel Richie's Hello_, or _Richard Marx Right Here Waiting_ ... maybe even a little _Depeche Mode Somebody_ (look at my music collection & if you still want to bust my chops on the Lionel & Richard selection so be it - plus you already know I love the Marx Man (prior admittance) ... But a song of such heartache, pain & love coming from a Brit Punk band who began their career in the 70's ... ahh sweet, sweet Buzzcocks, sweet, sweet Mike Smith ... Thank you for changing my perspective ... for showing me the way :)So here's the version that started it all:... and for you lot who aren't as "punk-friendly" (shame on you by the way) ... May I suggest the Pete Yorn spin on the lovely tune from the buzzing boys of Britain !Some nice anime as well ... so there's something for all the ages here in MOGland :)

  1. Dale says Ah yes, more Buzzcocks please! The Pete Yorn version was ... meh, okay. We won't even address the Fine Young Cannibals version, now will we? But there shall be no dissing "Somebody" here. That's the song Melissa and I danced to at our reception.

  4. Lizziegreeneyes says You misunderstand me Dale - I LOVE the song Somebody (Depeche Mode being one of my all time favorite bands) - I was just trying to explain that I had no idea a love song could *also* be a *punk* song ... the thought, at that point in my life - never crossed my mind til the back of the bus with Mike Smith !!! Chucky ... I agree - I like them both. I've always respected Pete Yorn, he's his own artist, but always covers all sorts of songs from my yoot. He loves all the bands I do !!! That makes me very happy !!! oceanrain (great name by the way) & Dale - I know there is nothing better than the original in the case of _this_ song, but for me, Pete comes in a close second, giving it a different tip - but still getting across the deconstructed feel of the punk styley !!! & as I said, he covered it for Shrek 2 - it brings the song to an entirely new generation - and these kids will do as we've done in our lives ... look into the history of the song & find the Buzzcocks - how can that be a bad thing. Now the Fine Young Cannibals should be locked in a room with Macy Gray & left to do what Cannibals do ... yick-o !!!

  5. soulrocket says I was introduced to Buzzcocks by one of my first girlfriends who had an amazing record collection (how convenient for me). That day I played all the albums non-stop & kept it like that for weeks. This was my kind of love song

  6. Anna says You know, I thought that I had never heard of Buzzcocks' music, till someone told me "you've heard Ever Fallen In Love?, everybody has at some point in their lives". And that someone was right, Kapranos bless. Lurve it.

  8. Rawkkiddoh says As far as I am concerned, there is only one version of this song. I liked hearing it again so much, I am going to have to go play it on my stereo as I cook dinner tonight.

  9. Lizziegreeneyes says There *is* only one version of this song ... but you can't blame a guy for trying ... what's the saying, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I'm glad you're gonna listen to it tonight ... you making the Buzz coq au vin this evening ... your wife will be so pleased ;)

  16. Mike the Knife says Re: Buzzcocks. If i don't listen to "Harmony in My Head" at least once a month, I fear that I will turn to stone.

  17. Lizziegreeneyes says Ok, I know this may be a stretch ... but if I can't tell my fellow MOGgers of a theory I have on "Harmony in My Head" ... who can I tell ? Plus, who better to test out my hypothesis ... I've been of the mind that The Buzzcocks song HiMH influenced The Verve & their song Bittersweet Symphony (we all know about the Rolling Stones melody), but I just get this feeling in my gut that there was a connection between the two songs ...) Right, well ... go ahead, tell me I'm smokin something ... I wish ;) Hey, I passed my 5 month no smoking anniversary ... holy crap, at 6 months, my best gal pal Deb & I are hitting the town to celebrate. She's been on me for *7* years to quit ... when her son/my godson was born, I quit that day. I *never* wanted him to know me as a smoker - to associtate that stench with his aunt lizzie ... Here's another video of Little Man Chase (my little LuMCa)... watch his eyes :) Though you can't see it clearly, the onesie he's wearing I got for him & it says *I'm with the band*, he's such my little *rocker*. & I swear to you, he's been watching us eat so intently for the last month (he's 4 months now), that when he finally got his hands on some rice cereal his reaction was priceless ... "see, I've been watching you do this for a few months now, but I knew at my *3rd* month, I could do it too ... see, I can eat like you do ... sure I loves me some *_boobie snacks_*, but this cereal thing is *_way cool_*, kinda like me, only I'm cooler ... *_& he is_* This post has changed quite a bit just in my last comment - sorry fellow MOGgers, Buboo (Chase) & his family are heading down to Florida for the week, I won't see him til next Friday, guess I am already going through severe withdrawl :) I got to sing him *Steal My Kisses* last night though * give him a bath ... I needed one as well - he gives the best *kissies*, but they are coated in loads of drool - he's starting the teething process !!! His *huggies* are a lot less messy, but not as much fun ;) Kev, you got any more cute shots of your very own Ferris ??? ... I can't wait for Fluffhead (Chase) to have enough fluff to make a mohawk !!!

  18. Rawkkiddoh says If I knew how to embed them I would post, I just gave him a haircut yesterday, made him looks older and like a little man. Funny the reaction Chase had with the dog, my boy gets all crazy around dogs and loves to pet them. When we go to the park, he will walk right up to any dog and start laughing non-stop. If they lick his face, he cant stop.

  19. Lizziegreeneyes says Chase & his neighbor girlfriend Olivia (8 months) both have giggleattacks everytime Chester gives them a slobberfacebath ... those are "kissies" I could do without ;) My other nephew Tobey always looks like a big boy when his Papa PoPo gives him a haircut, but I have to say, I prefer Thom with longer hair ... Dang ... I can't do it either ... oh well :( can't say we didn't try :)
