God Bless Mom

Right... with all these posts re St. Patrick's Day, I had to give some love to my most favoritest band in da whole wirrrrrld ... and pass these lads along to you as they will soon be touring the US ... and me and my best gal pal will be there in all our finery. THE FRAMES ...You may recall the film The Commitments, if not - get thee to a rental shop and pay the good person behind the counter the $5 to view it. The beautiful redhead playing the guitar is my man Glen Hansard. His band is feckin brilliant. From "Another Love Song" to "The Cost" - these lads bleed through their songs & albums, and there isn't a bad song in the lot of their growing collection. (Set List is a favorite of mine as it captures their live electricity, but I am also partial to For The Birds, Fitzcarraldo, The Cost & Burn the Maps. I mean seriously, they don't have a bad album) !!! And it's never better for me than when a band changes it up - I'm talking death metal/ Industrial Trance to DooWop. It's when a band puts out the same record over and over again and nothing changes. NickelCRack is all I got right now - but the band with Scott Stipe - that one made my ears bleed ... not pretty !Glen has another movie coming out this summer that also stars Marketa Irglova - a haunting chanteuse, called Once. Won the audience award at Sundance this year & Fox Searchlight picked it up for major distribution. The two created the album The Swell Season - also brilliant, a much softer side to Glen's songwriting. Trust me when I say you should check them out if you haven't done so already. They are the Irish band that all of Ireland loves. (No, U2 is NOT bigger there).
