A Quick Post for my MUM

Posted over 3 years ago

So Momma B & I were talking yesterday & being that she is really into the book I am working on, she had some great suggestions for me. One thing she really wanted me to impart to all you is an author that both she & I adore. Frank Conroy. He's a music prodigy & one hella writer... brought jazz to Nantucket... sadly it's my Mum who should be writing this post - hopefully she will & I can add to this post with her grand way with words. Until then though - I wanted to get his name out to all of you. His novel Body & Soul is loosely based on his own experiences & it's a page turner for anyone interested in music... you know someone who might fit that bill - I THOUGHT SO !!!

So check out Body & Soul or any other novel/memoir by Frank Conroy... he's spectacular & understands truly what it means to be a MUSIC JUNKIE !!!

Ahhh sweets - Da is doing great - got a cold right now - but his cancer is gone & his tests since the treatments have been stellar - the doctors are thrilled as are we :)  Thanks for asking !!!

I remember you mentioning this one - I haven't picked it up yet - presently finishing Empire Falls - it's become such a close friend it's gonna be hard to say goodbye.  I then have Paint it Black by Janet Fitch & The Tea House Fire... but I promise to get The Road on the top of the list after those two !!!

On the list...don't hold your breath though...school is starting soon and I am Treasurer of the PTA, on School Site Council (SSC) and working on the Drum Corps for my son's school.  All that plus a 40 hour a week job...I will be busy.

My Liz-sis is writing a book...but I'll let her give the details, since they aren't mine to give.

The Road is an AMAZING book!  I think I need to pop it to the top of my re-read list ASAP.

Annie...over achieve much?  I'm tired just reading what you have in store when school starts.  geeez.

@SpaceGroon... it was hinted at in some of my memory posts of the last couple weeks... I am working on a memoir where each chapter is a different music memory & usually associated with a person & the band/artist & how it's come to stay with me kinda thing.  It's in the beginning stages, but if you go back in my posts to one about Mike Smith & The Dead Kennedys Moon Over Malin (I titled mine Moon Over Brandywine), you'll get an idea of what's what :)

One set of details that my Amberlicous could give you is that she's gonna rock the photography in the book - my friend Po is gonna rock the cover design.

Gotta get back to more music memories... but it's been a crazy couple of weeks since I got started.  I am loving it though !!!  These memories are great to be walking around with again :)

I remember those posts . . . didn't realize they were for a grander scheme.  Very cool.  I've tried my hand at writing stuff in the past (we hadn't exchanged the trust last November, but I was taking part in a sort of contest called NaNoWriMo, which is basically to see how many people can write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November.  I got to 50,000 words, but it was kind of crap, really.)  Good luck with this!

@AnnaSIS... mentioned it in the memory posts - but really - I haven't mentioned it to many folks at this stage - it's so much in the start of it !!!  You're not out of the loop at present there IS NO LOOP ;)

Kisses back at you - Mum misses you something fierce & is hoping on a wing & a prayer that we can get you out here for Coachella '09 :)  She just adores you !!!

    (kisses from me too !!!)
