Ahhhhhhh Shuffle has done me really REALLY good this time round. I don't know what it is about MJ... pre Bad - even pre Thriller (though I do consider that one of the BEST pop albums ever) I adore me some OFF THE WALL. The kid had the chops to kick it serious for reals & anytime any of the songs off Thriller or OtW play - I can barely keep my arse in my seat. I just want to get up and dance. & I am not talking about a nice mellow sway, I am am talking getting seriously sweaty dancin with the disco balls spinnin & the block color floor flashin.
I never really liked him post Thriller - nothing gainst the musician - it just didn't work for me personally - his personal life - scares the everlovinoffthewall outta me... but when I am jammin & livin life OFF THE WALL where life ain't so bad at all - I am a happygreeneyedgirl. This is my third time listening to the dang title track & I can easily foresee another once or twice around the park Geeves ;P
I still remember singing tracks from the OtW album with our neighbors & I remember heading to shows with my post college girlfriends & blaring MJ Thriller/OtW in the parking lot waiting to go to the show. Better - I remember blaring it on the way out of the parking lot after the show - the amount of people who asked us to turn it up or if it was the full album etc... I don't think I can count that high - & I can get to at least 12 without looking ;)
So here's hopin that Tonight...
you gotta leave the 9-5 up on the shelf, & just enjoy yourself; come on & groove, let the madness & the music get to you ;)
a link since I still can't get the video to work right... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xrd3lSn5FqQ

Not the biggest MJ fan, but this and Thriller are great pop albums, I'll give you that. Don't tell anyone, but I even have my own copy of Thriller somewhere . . .
what are you doing to try and post your vids? I've learned that if you click the "HTML" tag on the top of the text field you can insert the embed code into that (make sure you put the < p > and < /p > tags at the beginning and end of it, respectively) and then hit "submit" or whatever button applies there. That's been working for me. I still haven't tried to upload an mp3 yet, I just realized.
@Spacegroon... ROCK ON MY FRIEND !!! happy days are here again & I won't tell a soul bout your copy of Thriller. These two albums I love... that's the long & short of it.
Excellent! Glad it's working now. I'm digging on the MJ right now.
nice... now get started cos this was always a fave of mine. What IS he saying at the end, anyhow? mama say mama say what??
And whats up with youtube and the tribute videos like this one? Wish there were a way to flag these from the ones that depict the actual performer.
@Chris... I HEAR YOU MAN, no I MEAN I HEAR YOU MAN !!! I like that they spell Michael MICHEAL ;) Aw man - this one is genius !!! Agreed totally ;)
It's jibberish technically - that's what I've always heard - but I think it's Mamasay Mamasaw Mamakoosaw...
or as spelled on 365 lyrics...
"ma ma se,
Ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa
Ma ma se, ma ma sa,
Ma ma coo sama ma se,
Ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa
Ma ma se, ma ma sa,
Ma ma coo sa"
lizzielady, thank you, i now feel properly edified as to MJ's language. I can rest soundly this evening.
until your little man informs you it's time to wakey wakey & snuggle & feed please ;)
Anytime though - you know that - I've always wondered myself - should look further into it - cuz it's meant to be African chanting - like Lionel Richie did as well...
AHHHH THANK WIKI: "The song ends with Jackson repeatedly singing "Mama-se, mama-sa, mama-coo-sa". According to writer Mark Anthony Neal, "the lyrics were taken directly from the music of Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango who broke into the American market in 1973 with his classic Soul Makossa." ("Makossa" means "dance" in Duala, a Cameroonian language). Dibango sued Jackson for copyright infringement after Thriller was released; the case was settled out of court."
won't let me embed - but here's another oldie but goodie...

An album that's definately a Quincy Jones highlight. The arrangements are fantabulous - especially the percussion. Is this where Rod Temperton shows up for the first time?? Just representing for my island, y'understand. Mikey's a grade A weirdo fer sure, but throughout his, um, career he's managed to continue making great tracks - just not all on one album. And this is better as an overall vibe than Thriller, my feet say so.
@Jonh... this is why you are the master & I the student - good call - I believe this is where your Heatwave's RTemperton shows up for the first time !!!
He has put out some really great pop tracks to be sure - but yeah - Off the Wall is probably my favorite (think because it's one of the first albums I remember really LOVING) & Thriller a close second because it was the first full length album I ever bought (at a farmer's market no less) !!!
This is the MJ album I dug, and it was during a time of my life when I use to say Disco sucks. Eh, go figure lol!
Michael Jackson - Burn This Disco Out
Damn you Liz! Now I think I have to put this on my list of albums to pickup sometime!
i like MJ fan and got to see him perform in Munich back in 1999, with Slash on guitar. And you know what happened? Remember watching all of his huge concerts back in the 80s and seeing people passing out and being crowd surfed to the sidelines? Well, I didn't pass out but i fell to my knees in a fever screaming when he appeared on stage. There was no control. It just happened and i didnt want it to nor was I expecting it. It was just automatic. Weirdest sensation ever.
your ears must have been burning - i was talking with someone about this song yesterday and used the exact same quote! Its my favorite song of his....and boy do I need to leave my 9 to 5 on the freakin' shelf this week!
I stopped when I got enough.
