MUSIC, what MUSIC ?!? It was all about the MOGtiply Love Kiddies !!!

Posted about 1 year ago
GO TO MY PAGE TO READ THE ENTIRE POST... as happens here from time to time, it cut off quite a large chunk of it...OK, so here's the deal kiddies. *I miss my MOGtiply-ily !!!* I miss them something fierce. I keep going over the astounding music we saw this past weekend in the desert of Indio California with palm trees & mountains as a most beautiful backdrop for 3 out of 5 stages. What I find myself coming back to time & again are the hugs, the conversations, the hysterical laughter, sing-alongs & sheer joy we all shared whilst taking in a most amazing Coachella Festival 2008, (lovingly dubbed by us crazy kids as Cricketchella 2008) ;)If you know me at all through MOG, you know of my unending love of all things Glen Hansard/Swell Season/THE FRAMES !!! In fact, one of the great responses from *b* to the question of "How did you find the group after going off on your own Friday afternoon ?!?" (cuz his cell phone died right before the trip)... was, *"Well, I knew exactly where +Lizzie+ would be at the start of The Swell Season's set, so I wasn't worried in the slightest !!!"* He was right :) *b* we pulled it off my friend, we saw The Swell Season/The Frames together & it was better than I imagined it would be !!! Oh, and My Morning Jacket… holy shizznizzie Cricket, that was INSANE !!!There are so many highlights to the shows; there are even more in the experiences... we have stories galore kiddies... for the record books really. There's the infamous GIANT ALBINO CRICKET that brought a fear the likes of *"The Mist"* to 2/3rds of the second row of seats in the Carpoolchella Short Bus whose occupants spanned seven locations across two continents. (Hours of time were spent in the vehicle, but it could have easily been minutes for as much fun as we had being trapped like sardines in a tin with four wheels & a driver extraordinaire) Dang the BMW driver, dang him to Hades !!! & speaking of The Mist, there were what appeared to be hundreds of thousands of moths let loose in the nighttime skies during Roger Water's first set that nearly had me running for the car (turned out it was confetti… but my mind automatically went to scary killer alien moths instead of something logical). There's the air mattress that truly could have transported all 8 timesharers to safety in the unlikely event of a flood, I am amazed anyone could get around on the floor when we were all stretched out to sleep ;) There's the true story of a man dubbed Dickleback who will surely bring a much UN-needed buzz to another band of similar name. His “sharpie” tramp stamp was one of legend, & we saw it kiddies, we saw it in the flesh ;) We even have a story about a festival Goddess who shined down upon the crew (sans Dale) for the last night of music after the sun set & Roger Waters took the stage. To the Goddess & to August, I extend my eternal thanks... that pig scared the crap outta me, as did the moths ;), but it was something to behold !!! There is the fact that there wasn’t a catfight, a drunken hookup in the Jacuzzi or catastrophic event that took place during our time shared in LA or Indio… so Real Worlders we are not… what we are… well I’d like to think that is blatantly obvious…We’re MOGtipliers who love music & loving spending days on end in close quarters, sweating to the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s & beyond musically with the coolest kiddies you could ever hope to meet. Our final supper together, at the talented hands of our on-site chef Dale, well, it was the perfect ending for this greeneyedgirl… sadly, I missed the final meal in LA where I hear a certain Dane had his pants scared off him – seems only right, as his partner in crime *b* dealt with the FEAR of one GIANT ALBINO CRICKET only a few nights prior. In all seriousness, I’ve had the pleasure & grand fortune to meet up with MOGgers in Reading PA, Philadelphia PA, London England & now Indio CA. What I will say to all who read this post is this simply put… *If you are ever granted the opportunity to hang out with any fellow MOGger or MOGtiplier, +don’t hesitate to do whatever you must+ to do so. It will be more than worth the money/effort/time to hang with some of the coolest people you will ever hope to meet & you’ll find you’ve made friends & family for life.* This only child now has 6 siblings, an “ex-husband”, and numerous friends who’ve made my life magical & blessed with the love, humor, friendship & song most folks dream of, but never quite grasp. For me there is also the tale of 24 hours spent trying to get home... 24 VERY LONG hours after you've had little sleep, much sun & endless fun.How can I complain though really ?!? As Mark said – it was the yang to my YING-filled weekend, my being stuck first at the Palm Springs Airport & then after a taxi ride of two hours (thankfully paid for by the folks at United for overbooking flights for many of the Coachella folks heading home), stuck at LAX for over 11 hours. Many of the staff kept asking how I was doing… shocked I was there at the beginning of their shifts & there when they were heading home for the night. Thankfully there were texts galore that kept me smiling if not laughing coyotically & hysterically (it also helped that I kept myself hydrated with a few gin n tonics… I mean, if you can’t drink in the 11 hours waiting for a plane that kept increasing its delayed arrival, when can you) ?!?I will tell you this for certain, next time, I would gladly fly into LAX & drive the remainder of the 125 miles to get to the fest… constantly hearing, “sorry it’s overbooked”, “we could put you on standby, but you’d likely get stuck at that airport, you’re better off waiting here 11 hours” & “WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE ?!?” almost got to be too much for this greeneyedgirl to handle ;)ALMOST, but not quite !!!One thing this weekend surely wasn't... a BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY...NOTHING could take even a glimmer away from our weekend, NOT ONE THING would I change, NOT A ONE my beloved friends, not a SINGLE SOLITARY ONE !!!

  8. Bartleby says My goodness 24 hours, stranded and tussled... Still what a memory this whole expedition left you! What a lovely reading it gave us! -- I'm so envious of you all. I think meeting up with fellow Moggers is always worth it be it for a festival or just for some pints ;)

  10. amber says I still am amazed that although we were so very tired and strung out and over stimulated and the 12 mile ride from festival to timeshare was over 2 hours long, deep into the night...we were so very happy that the time was joyous and fun and silly and ridiculous. I will have no regrets about anything ALL WEEKEND LONG except perhaps not bringing my sweet Lizzalicous coffee in the morning. Next time I will. I've met several MOGGERs, last year at Lolla, Sasquatch, various random shows and now Coachella. The meetings are getting to be more and more fun and the friends I have made ??are?? more like family than friends. Anyone who doesn't move heaven and earth to make a get-together is missing on one of life's largest pleasures.

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says *Bro:* TOO true !!! The stranger the better I always say ;) *Bartleby:* regardless of it being a festival meet up or a meet up at the local watering hole, I am just thrilled to be a part of any and all MOGetogethers... the folks I've met & now call family & friends... well they are among the best quality folks I could ever hope to know !!! *Don:* the man worked that stage like it was his own private bedroom & we were his guests for the night... LEGEN... wait for it... DARY !!! *Amber:* I'll let the coffee slide darlin, all I know is I am missing everybody something fierce & we've made memories to last a lifetime; still I can't wait to see you again !!! SOON !!!

  12. Mike the Knife says Ah. Read the whole thing at Lizzie Central. Bullgoose loony! I'm not a fan of the fests, but I'm so thrilled for my MOG friends and the wonderful time that was had by all - except for the ever-looming threat of scary creatures.

  14. goodmusiconly says At long last I've logged onto your page and lordy, LIzzie, you crack me up (could I have thrown any more llll's into that line?!) ... what a fun time! I'd be downright sick about it if I didn't have MOGolith to look forward to. Fortunately we don't have any albino crickets here, just big hairy spiders ... but that's alright, there'll be enough green eyes around here to scare all of 'em away. ;)
