WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Hometown Boy Rocks Lancaster PA... Amish People Beware ;)

Posted over 2 years ago
A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon a notice from WXPN offering up a free Matt Pond PA/Jesca Houp show... I didn't wait to get a concert buddy. A free show means I will find someone or I will go it alone... "*+blair+*":http://mog.com/satisfiedmind2 's jet was in the shop, "+*jameson*+":http://mog.com/jameson was otherwise engaged (heh) & "*+Katrina+*":http://mog.com/kat3260 was partying Halloween styley with "+*Will*+":http://mog.com/Lyrikhan & "*+RagIan+*":http://mog.com/RaG3aH0liC.*Deb*, the faithful concert buddy & bestest friend (man, I have dragged her to countless shows - but I know for certain she's thrilled I do), signs on to be my wingman & we were off on Saturday night after a quick goodbye to the cutest & most wonderful 10 month old ever. The preshow prep consisted of purchasing a silver Sharpie (TM) & being certain to have John Mavroudis's gorgeous poster from the show at the GAMH in San Francisco with me for signatures of Matt & Jesca. The drive was grand... all sorts of new music from MOGtiply friends & visions of horse & buggies & outlet shops along with the Showboat Motel & Motel6s that didn't look half bad really...We got to the venue, $3 to park for the evening - *SERIOUSLY !!!* Stood in line for about 10 minutes or so & then it was drinks in hand find a nice spot to plant ourselves for the evening. We had a great view of the stage, maybe 25 to 30 feet from the stage & slightly elevated. Unfortunately The Chameleon Club is still a smoking establishment so there were smokers to contend with (forgive the recently non-smoking lizzie... but when it's an enclosed & poorly ventilated locale - the smoke is an issue for me). Jesca Hoop takes the stage after an intro from one of the WXPN DJs (speaking of LIVE being an act that played The Chameleon Club - saw them there when I was still in high school & Mental Jewelry was the album on repeat in my car's tape player). She's lovely. A girl from LA who shares a quirky Bjork songwriting & performing aspect that I really tuned into on Saturday. She plays for about a half hour & truly impressed both myself & Deb, faithful partner in crime. The light guy should be commended - in a little club venue such as The Chameleon Club - it was rather impressive & added to the overall feel from Jesca's set (as well as Matt Pond PA's).About a half hour after Jesca leaves us (& signs my John Mavroudis poster), Matt Pond PA take the stage & light the place up with songs from the eps, and all the albums including a few from the latest Last Light... really wanted to hear Holiday Road... alas, it wasn't meant to be :)It was a fantastic night - even as Matt dealt with a shotty mic cable (duct tape is the item that holds the world together) the music swirled around me & is still presently swirling... That's his music for me... a swirl of melody & harmony, three guitars & interesting lyrics... really amazing.Got all but the drummer to sign the poster - looks fantastic - now I must get a poster frame & do it up right... this piece of art belongs on my walls. What a night...Thanks to blair & jameson for hooking me up with all sorts of jesca/Matt Pond PA goodness, thanks to John for an amazing poster & thanks to all the artists that keep me heading out to see shows... where would I be without music... a thought that I will not entertain.

  7. annieander says What did everyone think about the poster? When you pulled out this GAMH SF poster for signatures? They must have been stunned...at least started a conversation. It is a beaut, BTW. Good vid selection too...very sweet. Super jealous (as if you didn't know already!!!).

  9. chucky says $3 parking, a venue that still allows smoking, and a band you enjoy - good times! Ok, ok - I know you complained about the smoking part but the thought gave me fond memories of smoking indoors and how much I enjoyed it. Especially in November. ;)

  10. ZenPop says Thanks Lizzie!... That's a great report!... brought me back to the concert back here... I LOVED their live version of "Last Light"... Did they play Fairlee? Did you miss the cello?... (I kinda missed it, but not as much as I thought I would...) ...and sorry Chucky... gotta agree with Lizzie on this one... They STILL allow smoking in clubs?... I thought that went out years ago!... Memories of not smoking but having to dry clean my jacket to get the smoke smell out weren't that fond for me... ha! ... ...and I agree w/ Sam... the cute kid should be the MOG mascot!... great pic...

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says *b:* Thanks to you & Jameson that when I saw the opportunity, I RAN with it !!! :) THANKS... I owe you some Amish cheese !!! *Principal Vernon:* total agreement on the Jesca Hoop tip, she's going to blow it up if given the chance !!! *champers:* right on :) *Dale:* Truly, it was most certainly fate & luck that fell into my lap on this one... it actually took blair & jameson & John all working together with me for me to find this & have the experience I did !!! *Anna:* Boy did they... only thing that would have made it more memorable - having you +ALL+ with me :) *indiepixie:* If I could, I _SWEAR_ I would !!! Glad it gave you the feeling of the weekend again - at least I could bring that to you !!! *Annie:* Several of them went nutzo, Jesca & Matt both commented & I was thrilled to say I knew the artist who created that poster !!! Also the keyboardist/guitarist & bass player made note of it... the lead guitarist seemed out of sorts that night... but was gracious enough to sign it anyway :) Thanks on the video - thought it perfect !!! Wish you could have been there as well *Sam:* It's my _God_ son actually... but I totally agree the kid should be the MOG mascot, Deb is cool with her little Buboo rockin that title as well - all that's left is to talk with david ;) *Ashley:* I used to be that girl... nothing worse than standing out in the cold to smoke a cig, but I still hated the stank on me when I exited said poorly ventilated establishment !!! But, yeah, that parking cost floored me !!! *John:*... NO, thank YOU !!! They all loved that poster by the way... Jesca & all of Matt Pond PA... for several of the Matt Pond group, it was a favorite... the keyboardist specifically spoke to wishing he could have met you - just LOVED it !!! Yeah, _*chili con Chase-o*_ would make the perfect MOG mascot !!!

  16. Lizziegreeneyes says *John:* oops meant to also say... I did miss the cello (but just as you said) - not as much as I thought I would... those three guitars more than made up for it... loved that wall of strings ;) No Fairlee... but much of his _Autumnal & Winter_ fair... it was quite lovely really - added to the whole overall atmosphere... made me happy I had my scarf in the car *_&_* that I didn't bring it into the venue - would hate to have it laundered !!!

  18. Lizziegreeneyes says *Sam:* Yeah... that's so true... ;P Please darlin... no worries... showed this post to his Momma this morning & you should have seen the grin on her when she read your comment... she then schooled me in the "you best make the correction that you are _God_ mom, *_I_* am Mom" ;) He's as good as my little person - would lay down my life for him & my love for him knows NO bounds !!! He's even cooler than any of his pics or videos... sincerely, at 10 months he's got the best personality. I got really lucky in the Godchild/auntie role... three awesome nephews (one also a Godson) & a kick arse niece !!!
