*OK OK OK... _I'll_ Admit to it... BUT... what about _YOU_ ???*

Posted over 4 years ago
If only for the clip below - I guess it was worth it... but I still don't understand how I _*EVER*_ could have liked this album.I remember when I first heard that song... _You're Beautiful_. I wanted the singer dead. Doornail dead. His voice killed me... it was such an awful song & it was all that the radio seemed to be playing (another reason I rarely listen to the radio these days). But I had a squirrelly co-worker who burned me a copy of +Back to Beadlam+ & told me to check it out - said it was the guy who sang "You're..."*I handed it back to him immediately. "Sorry Craig, there is _NO WAY_ I'll listen to it !!!"*He said I really should check it out... so I did & aside from the aforementioned song, I dug it quite a bit. Stayed in the work stereo for a few weeks - even got the Mum into it... Then I got into the next new album(s) & Mr. Blunt (though a cool last name *;P* still *NOT* a reason to like the guy), got shelved for months. The other day I saw that he'd put out a new one & I went back to the first. I instantly broke out in hives, started dry-heaving & things went black for a minute or two. h1. What was I thinkin ???He's so annoying (in my own personal opinion) & doesn't do a thing for me - not a single song... he's going back on the shelf indefinitely. I musta been high on crack er sumpin the day Craig gave me the CD... only explanation I got kiddies - *CRACK !!!!*Thankfully - the 9 step program I entered has been working wonders & I can actually sit through a parody (well almost all of the parody) of the song that still causes an instant allergic reaction...h1. Do you have any skeletal remains of artists/albums that brought the hate/love/hate reaction ???

  1. Dale says This is a very brave post, sis. James Blunt ... yeesh! Here goes ... I've despised most everything Sheryl Crow has ever done, but this song has stuck in my craw, and I still kinda like it now. The shame. :-$

  2. rjacoby says You are quite correct. My feeling was that Mr. Blunt's work was the output of one of those computer programs that the labels are buying to algorithmically create perfect hits. I would even rather have XTina tell me I'm beautiful.

  6. HelenMarie says Okay I could get stoned, beaten or poohed on for this by some others round here...but I have to say Tori Amos. I really can't believe I'm saying it. I know she's a *very* talented woman and I have probably 10 of her albums, 2 dvd's *and* a VHS. I JUST can't get past the dramatics any more, the extra heavy breathing in parts, and an accent she's developed since moving out of US I just don't get it anymore. I was seriously into her for a while too, and one day I'm might love again, who knows... That's a little backwards love/ hate/ _maybe_ love again. But that's my thought.

  8. contrabandwidth says Ulp...here goes.... Alanis Morrisette's "Jagged Little Pill". Read some reviews, as a teen I was intrigued by anyone who would "go down on you in a theater." Heard a song on the radio the other day and couldn't bare to listen to all the digital modulation on her voice, plus when you finally got a good look at her that wasn't that blurry over effected video, she is very annoying to look at too. Reminded me of the annoying, always acting/effecting, drama kids from high school. I later found out that "You Outta Know" may have been written about Dave Coullier (Uncle Joey from Full House), and out the window went any pretense of "sexiness" for that song.

  9. HelenMarie says Wow, contra the last time I really could listen to Tori...I saw her and Alanis in concert together and I don't know which one was more annoying to see live. All Alanis did was make a V walking from one side of the stage to the other over and over and over again...We left mid Alanis.

I think we're even ;) *rjacoby:* AAY-men !!! *Troy:* There are a couple gems in there - just gotta dig deep - otherwise I am with you - the crap I listened to back then, I'd still listen to... & do ;) What her tatas must look like now she's pregnant !!! *Principal OH Principal:* that's one I hadn't seen - THANK YOU !!! *SunnyD:* - *Will* is right... you best hide for a day or two ;) I get where you're coming from - but I've always felt that's part of her uniqueness - the heavy breathing etc. & trust me when I say - it's easy to pick up an accent when you're outside your element - at least it can be for the theatrical types - I am in Milwaukee less than a day or two before I am saying the B'oh-DEEENS etc. I'll let it slide though - you'll come back to Tori - if you loved her once - I can see it happening again !!! *Tyler:* Would still listen to the Pill if I had it - another lost to the college years... must be the theatre geek in me ;) I wasn't one of the annoying ones - they pissed me off too !!! *Will:* Trust me - I KNOW, I KNOW... I've been through the program though & first step is admitting you have a problem - did that up but nice now, didn't I ???

To make amends for my Tori hating, I sadly could probably sing the entire Aerosmith "Pump" album. Thank god I will not have to be taken to task for this. I have many shameful albums in my past. 22. SamTheButcher says See, and it's really about context. Because my memory of this song will be roller skating holding hands with my daughter and with my wife on her other side at the end of her roller skating party and me asking her "Do you want to skate on ahead, honey?" and her saying "No..." And I just continued to skate with her. One of my favorite memories of my entire life, really. But to answer your question, one artist that I've never liked and hate to this day because of one song is Marc Cohn and that stupid Walking in Memphis song. It sucks, he sucks, and I'm sorry he got shot in the head and all, but he still sucks. Getting shot doesn't make you suck less.

  23. dachmo says I really liked this album for a time but felt real weird about it because it just wasn't the type of music I was listening to at the time, so I hid it from people. Then one day inthe mid '90s I found the tape in a box somewhere and tossed it in the garbage. I think I may want to listen to it again because I now have her voice in my head singing "...been around the world and I yi yi yiii can't find my baby, I don't know when I don' t know why...my ba-yay-be. There was another similar album around the same time that I had but I can't think of the singers name. Corinne something.. The album cover was a closeup of the singers face (white english girl with brown hair) she was wearing a yellow turtleneck and the background was a lime green. If anyone can think of it I'd love to figure it out.

Still love on the first Silverchair album tho... don't have anything after that. *ZZTodd:* I got quite a few looks for the video - think it was more me laughing than the actual video... I think it's cool that as a teen she was writing her own songs - but those songs are evil... listened to that album 3 times & then never again !!! *Hanson* - still love them - so they don't go on this list & I don't care what y'all say - the kids (POST Mmmbop) wrote some great pop tunes !!! *oh my Devil Rouge:* You know I had that album (Alannah Miles) on cassette & loved that song the entire summer that it came out - then never looked back - my Da to this day has that cassette in his car - don't know why - he NEVER listens to music in the car - a sad state in his vehicle... can't imagine being in a car... h1. 40. Lizziegreeneyes says *Tyler:* For the longest time growing up - all Mum listened to was classical - and I ain't knockin those who came before... but I really got overloaded with Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Beef-oven, Chopin etc. Think it's near time I go back and get into the *TRUE* classics... Thankfully, Mum has been a follower of all music _*lizziegreeneyedapproved*_ so when I am in her car, it's like being in my car. & my best friends likes what I like - we try to outdo each other - cept for Deb - she just trusts I'll play/take her to shows she'll like & I've yet to fail her - she's been my concert buddy for 6 - almost 7 years now.. before that, TallPo & Katerina... so I gots it good - just avoid the car with Da - or bring some old cassettes of my own ;) Every once in a blue moon I'll get something Motown-y with a driving beat/bassline & Pops goes gaga over it - that always makes me smile all warmy !!!
