Now I...(I've) Had the Time of My Life & I Owe it All to MOG ;)

Posted over 4 years ago
First off... to the MOGgers who were there... this song is for you :)Let's start at the beginning, shall we ??? As Chris has stated - we all got off to a late start... I wasn't late like Bill: who threw a gym visit into his AM routine - I was lucky to be coherent for the first phone call from a MOGger that morning !!! Round bout 1pm we all converge on CHEESESTEAK of the gods, *Tony Luke's*. Got the call to see what was keeping me as I was turning the corner onto the TL street - only to see the Bill on his cell & Cody & Chris flanking him (obviously for protective purposes). The eats were terrific - the company even better. We fell into an easy rhythm (heh - MOGgers are rhythmic - who knew) ??? After lunch, to the pub we go. A few wrong turns later & I get my car to The Dark Horse (Oh - is it ok if I mention now that I parked for free the entire day - free at Tony Luke's & free off South Street - unheard of - I had to move my car three times - stayed on the same block - never had to circle back the slot was always one or two ahead of mine, [parallel parking in West Chester paid off BIGTIME for this greeneyedgirl], only paid for parking at the Mann) & proceed to go through every room in the gin-joint establishment trying to find the "two C's" Tweedle Kickass & TweedleAwesome. Locate them in the furthest recesses of the pub & buy myself a pint of cidah. Bill follows not long after & we all begin toasts & pub stories... all three of these guys can yarn it with the best of the grannies (meaning they tell great tales) & we're never at a loss for convo. One tale involved Chris & his adoration of Olivia & her special LIMITED EDITION 2 CD Singles set... Cody - have you ever been mellow ??? Nicki & her friend/boyfriend, Jonathan follow bout a 1/2 hour later & we find more suitable accommodations for the growing group. Mark & Chris (dharmachris) complete the 8 piece set & we get even more great stories from the addition of four, totaling eight - yup, I can add too. I saw scotch (though I really wanted it to be the Ladie's Man's Courvoisier), that scotch looking fine in snifters, Guinness, Summer Ales, CIDER ;), non-alcoholic beer... didn't matter what you drank - it was all about the MOGlove baby. Bunch of rowdy foreigners (not the band) were watching rugby & European football & also having a blast - but we did it with panache (always wanted to use that word). Half our crowd had to leave after the clock struck 5pm & this meant the four musketeers were back & in need of some eats. I took them to my favorite place Cedars (of Lebanon - but the owner wasn't there & the kid who didn't understand me) sent us to Fez (Moroccan eats also owned by the same family & just as good). A much better choice for us - once our eyes got adjusted to the batcavelike darkness. Hideous music - but for a junkie - there is only so much I can stand before I want to throw on something a tad more familiar. The food - oh the food !!! The company better - & it was a lovely end - that is, partial end to the evening. Bill & I made haste at a little after 8pm (Elvis started at 8pm) for the Mann Music Center. I got to the Mann & parked & sat on the curb & waited... & waited... & waited for Bill. Elvis finished his first set & I called to see if everything was OK - he was a tad lost, (I empathize - it was dark & I've never gone to the Mann from that direction - I almost got lost myself), but for my batlike refelexes honed in the den of Fez, I was able to get there without a wrong turn - to make up for the many wrong turns to get from TLs to TDHPub. He made it back just in time to see the whole second act. It took me a song to get into the vibe of Elvis & his orchestra. I felt it was a little too "Luck be a Lady Tonight" at first listen & I am much more a "(I Don't Want to Go To) Chelsea" kinda lady - _I never did like to gamble - though I will when it's with regards to tuneage. By the second or third song - *Alison* - he had me. Kept me the rest of the night. Even with the _Luck be a Lady_esque *Watching the Detectives* - it worked strangely enough, suited the song to an _"E"_T - heh. One of the last songs was *She*; I am a total sap & romantic, so hearing that one nearly had me getting choked up, I had keep it cool though, in front of Bill... ;) I didn't cry, wanted to, but I am not going to ruin my make up - heh, guess that sounded better. Let's just say I was thrilled to hear the song. I adore that song &... if anyone has it - & could get it up on MOGTIPLY (awful plug, but it's *_MY_* post people, deal with it), I will love you forever. End of the show, Bill & I say our goodbyes under a slightly cloudy sky - both saying several times: "CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE"... hopefully we won't have to wait that long :)*GREAT GOOD TIME KIDDIES - DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO ORGANIZE ONE IN YOUR NECK O THE WOODS... You can do it, we can help !!! The day, well to quote a lovely Aussie ;), it was pure...*h1. MAGIC :)Don't say anything bad bout my Livia - I will always adore her & the total crap film Xanadu (I agree it's a gobshite flick), but ya can't stop me, so don't even try ;P

  2. Lizziegreeneyes says :) Never gonna stop lovin her or her yicko films... she was my idol also - though I gave her to my blonde friend... I leaned toward Chrissie Hynde & with the deeper voice, it was the best choice for me ;)

  3. Lizziegreeneyes says How did I miss Wonder Woman - still have the underroos to prove my love of all things - Wonderful Woman - POW (lizzie spinning tirelessly round and round after singing the Wonderful Woman song that lizzie made up) ;)

  4. lucystarlite says yeah, i went from loving olivia (even though i've never been a blonde) and then wanting to be wonder woman, one of charlie's angels, then onto chrissie hynde, pat benatar, patti smith, and then onto members of the go-go's and the bangles. chrissie hynde and natalie merchant, or somewhere in-between, mixed with a bit of aimee mann is where my voice winds up in. i could never sing like olivia. but i do love her still. lucy.

  5. tybees says I love hearing about these MOG meetups, and am glad it was a success! I don't think there's many active MOGers in my town, but I'm inspired to take a look now :)

  6. Mike the Knife says Ah, ca-MOG-raderie! I feared that someone might choke on a piece of scrapple. Happy to hear that all was copacetic in Phillytown.

  7. dermahrk says May've been a crap film (never seen it) but I am thrilled it exists because the soundtrack contains four prime-era ELO songs that I didn't discover until last year. It was like finding gold doubloons in your Saturday pants! That restaurant actually sounds intriguing. I got the impression it was cheesesteaks at the first place closest to The Dark Horse. I own an Olivia CD - because she covered a Jules Shear song, It's So Easy To Begin. At least one track from that survives on the iPod, and it's not the Shear cover. Anyone that looks that good in skintight leather pants can't be all bad!

  9. ivylander says It was exactly as you said, Lizzie. An excellent wrapup, if perhaps a bit too detailed. (Didja hafta say I got lost?)

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says *tybees:* Do it !!! Can't hurt !!! Think we may get folks to seriously consider driving a few hours even... I will next time round if that's what's needed. *Mike:* blechh scrapple - it was mentioned once at Tony Luke's, but thankfully none surfaced. Missed you PhillyBro :) (we had cheesesteaks before the Dark Horse *Mark*), had to switch it up a bit & it's a +great soundtrack+... many juicy hits to rollerskate around to ;) The pants weren't leather though - spandexy dance pants material - she still had to be sewn into them, they were that tight. *Kevbo:* I still harbor a crush on the late 70s/80s Olivia... she rocked when I was a little girl, so she always will in my heart (hopelessly devoted) - plus - she KILLS Sandra Dee... *_tell me about it; STUD_* ;) *Bill:* I mentioned my lost happenings... it's not your fault - I explained the darkness & coming from the other direction... don't worry no one knows you're ivylander (oops) & the important thing is that you -finally- made it... _*FINALLY*_ ;P *Jonathan:* Check out this little post... "*(CLICK ME TO GO TO SHOES)*":http://mog.com/Cody_B/blog_post/110336 for the money shot - oops - I meant feet & hands shot... oh yes, we do it up real nice here in Phill-AY.

  14. Cody B says So is Have You Never Been Mellow, ooh and carole King's Jazzman too. Those 6th grade songs are burned into my skull. I had both those 45's.

  15. I am says Tweedle Kickass and Tweedle Awesome, better than Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber. When Cody called we got to talking about who the lynchpin of the group was. I said Bill, then Cody started joking "I want to be the lynchpin!" that was just the begining of our Me,Me, Me, Me, Me, Me fight. Mike said "scrapple" (drool).

  16. Lizziegreeneyes says Lynchpin... song by Mundy... great song, if not quite what you were meaning ;) I've noticed that you can't even bare to look and see take out those drunken eyes and learn just how to be I hear you calling but you will not let me speak can't hide it any more, your wall's about to leak Chorus you got to let me in, to pull the root, you got to let me in, to find the truth and pull the linchpin It's got to end now it has gone way too far the sparkle robber overdosed in his car they found a note that he left on the ground it said yours was the strongest sparkle that he'd ever found Chorus and it's nearly over and you're my lover but it won't be over 'till we pull the linchpin Think we were all lynchpins on Saturday :) _*I like the Tweedle nicknames - you two are cut from the same cloth far as I am concerned - that is a compliment to the both of you !!!!!!*_

  17. Joxley says Wow, glad you had fun, wish that I could've been there (C'mon Dale, where is that telporter you promised me???) Although, it kinda sounds like I might have been there in spirit at least: _Bunch of rowdy foreigners (not the band) were watching rugby & European football & also having a blast_
    Permalink posted 09/12/2007
  18. Lizziegreeneyes says Thought of all you cross the Atlantic who'd have been right at home sitting in the pub getting rowdy ;) Glad your spirit hung out for a bit !!!
    Permalink posted 09/12/2007
  19. ivylander says Actually, Joxley, all the rowdy foreigners there were Polish, and watching the game against Portugal. Though I have been squeezed into a corner at the Dark Horse for a couple of England's World Cup games - Beckham seems to bring out the British talent for vivid and original obscenity.

  22. Lizziegreeneyes says Which thrills me to NO end - always thought it was something I had to keep in the closet along with my love of Chicago & Toto - turns out there are others out there suffering from my same affliction - arppreciation of decent pop music from a day sans Britney.
    Permalink posted 09/13/2007
  23. poebegone says Toto - for some reason my class loved to sing Africa whenever we had to perform in school programs, and i can still hear in my head the 2nd voice we'd do. that, and Kyrie by Mr. Mister. :D
    Permalink posted 09/13/2007
  24. Lizziegreeneyes says Kyrie - I was going to add Mr. Mister - nice to know I share some of these brain cells with someone else having great taste :)
