YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

BuBoo, MY MOST FAVORITEST SINGER EVER !!!

Posted over 2 years ago
Hopefully by now - y'all know I have a nephew (also my Godson) *CHASE* ! You also may know that when he was 5 months in his mommy's belly she & I had a last hurrah before her life (& in some minute way my life) changed forever. It was a change for the better there is NO DOUBT in my mind & I've seen her with him - knowing she is one of the finest mothers I have ever known. BuBoo, the little man Chase is quite a heartstealer... but it was this past Friday where he made his auntie most proud, & though I don't consider myself a grinch - my heart grew 9 sizes larger that afternoon. Being the music junkie in his life with the most eclectic tastes, it became my DUTY to give this kid a well-rounded education & appreciation for all things musical. What better way than to take him to the Electric Picnic at the exact time when he was starting to hear from inside Deb's womb. He heard The Frames play three times (twice, but then Glen & Marketa played songs from the Swell Season). _*Once*_ (heheh) we got back stateside, I would play music for him with a set of headphones placed on Deb's tummy... all sorts of songs from a rainbow of artists & bands... some we knew he loved, some - he was less than thrilled with, but he always listened with an open mind. The Frames are one of my - aw hell - they are my favorite band. I love so many artists & bands - but The Frames - they're it - they are the pinacle - they bring me to my knees every time. EVERY TIME. So I pick up my second nephew (I have three now - Tobey, sweetest & coolest two year old ever, then there's Chase, & finally Tobey's little brother, Jacob - a love with the best expressions), & we head to Barnes & Noble before play time begins & we wait til his mommy gets home from work. It's the car ride home that nearly had me pulling over to the side of the road. I am playing a mix I made him after he was born - when he would get really fussy the first two months, sometimes the only thing to calm him was music & movement - but mainly the music. I would sing to him & he would quiet down & sleep. The song *+YOUR FACE+* comes on - if you've never heard it - seek it out - the versions on youtube are both less than stellar & wouldn't do it justice. I always sing in the car - he's used to me singing really anywhere. But I begin to hear this little voice coming from the back seat. This dear sweet little voice, & this voice is singing. He wasn't babbling, he wasn't crying, he was actually singing to the song Your Face. I am a girl in touch with my emotions & I freely admit a few tears fell down my cheeks as I turned down the music just a little to hear him better. He paused, then started right back up again. I could feel it coming from him - "Aunt lizzie, I love our Friday dates, I love when you sing to me, I love The Frames - I remember them from the EP - you always play them for me & now I get to sing these songs *+with+* you" !!! (Maybe not all that - but it's what I heard in a 7 month old singing along to The Frames with his auntie - he picked my favorite band, one of my favorite songs of theirs to be the first song we'd sing together. Even now, through a huge smile the eyes are welling up a teensy bit. When you know you really have given the gift of music to someone you love - especially a little someone - where you see the years ahead of them all filled with the magic of music, the soothing salve of music, the angry angst-ridden music, the love music... et al, you know you've given them the greatest gift of all. This kid has it bad - but thanks to his Auntie - he has the BEST taste & he always will - I'll make sure of it. Since it _IS_ covers Sunday, the first song is *Astral Weeks* by +Van Morrison+ as sung by *Glen Hansard* the lead singer of *The Frames*. The second song is another slower song from my band *The Frames**+ASTRAL WEEKS.VAN MORRISON+**+Star Star+*Glen's face is one of my favorites - but BuBoo so far outshines him... it's unreal :)

  1. Tallpo says Must have been an awesome sight ....from your rear view window looking back at BuBoo. Toby has been dancing to Maroon 5's Makes Me Wonder everytime it plays on VH1 or OnDemand. His little 2 month old brother seems to like the Goo Goo Dolls since thats all he seems to say "Ah goo!". The day can't come soon enough when I get to take them to their first concert. : )

  2. Lizziegreeneyes says Didn't get to see it - don't have the mirror yet - but since it's gonna be my regular Friday afternoon thing baby ;) I am gonna swing by Babies R Us tomorrow & get one... PO - don't you DARE be thinking their Aunt lizzie isn't coming with them to that show... I would never forgive you if you kept me from the first show... then I can be the cool auntie who takes them to see Mr. Bungle's reunion tour while you & Kristen complain about the racket the kids are listening to these days ;P

  4. Lizziegreeneyes says aside from the last 30 minutes or so before bed... he's a prince. Alll smiles & drool & huggies & kissies & head butts (when he first sees you & gets soooo excited he can't look at you too long, HEAD BUTT, then he looks up smiling, then HEAD BUTT... - that was my favorite thing he did aside from the kissies - til I heard him singing The Frames... he can do no wrong...

  7. Anonymous says Great post LizzieGirl, The Frames is an artist I'll def have to check out. Great way to get him to fall asleep though. I used to sing to my niece too, now she's nothing but music, always trying to play the keys and stuff. as always - cute kid!

  8. Lizziegreeneyes says Kev. that little bitty voice just singin along to "gotta send this tape to you..." & it was a "tape" I made for him... kid's got a future in the biz ;) I can see E rawking out to some NOFX or Against Me! and then switching gears to Old 97s. Po's gonna raise two boys steeped in the tradition of JT, Jackson Browne & DMB for certain & Pearl Jam for the harder end. Chase is gonna be completely OCD over what to sing/listen to (just like his auntie). Ask Po - if I am in charge of what we're listening to - I sometimes can't even wait for the song to finish (cardinal sin) before changing it up... that's why I love mixes & I love my pod... it does all the OCDing for me & I just get to enjoy.

  9. Rawkkiddoh says His punk music gene is not quite there yet, instead he is a fan of cute singers who are women. So far if he hears Regina Spektor, Gwen or Christina Aguilerra he goes nuts. The punk stuff, well I dont think its his cup of tea...........yet

  14. Jonh Ingham says That version of 'Astral Weeks' was so awesome I couldn't bear to hear the other one. But what's he doing with Willie Nelson's guitar? :-D Bu's smile is a secret weapon in waiting - what a cutie! Then they grow up to be 12 and surprise you by how cool and wonderful they are. My girl's balancing African with J-pop and a healthy dose of anime and manga...two proud parents glow from the sidelines.

  20. Lizziegreeneyes says *Oh young Kat:* talk to me when you're in your 30s & single... then I will commiserate with you. I would love to have the relationship & then the child, but I think my parents are truly chomping at the bit for a grandchild - they are ridiculous over the three nephews & once niece of mine (these are my friends' kids - I am an only child) so if I don't produce one for them soon - think they may try to find themselves another daughter. ;) I still got time... but yeah... there are days like this one on Friday - where as much as I adore my nephews & niece, the thought of experiencing that with my little person, almost too much to comprehend. I take great pride in his wonderful taste in music... our song is actually Elvis's _*I Can't Help Falling in Love With You*_ first song that played & I sang that got him to stop fussing & fall asleep - had me in tears - never liked Elvis - but that song - will always get me misty when I play it. Interesting factoid: it is also Rhett Miller's song for his son Max... he'd sing it to him when he was still in the womb. This one's for Chaser Man & for Max...

  21. kat3260 says There's something about Elvis that's soothing to young ears. Great video - I _love_ Elvis, can't figure out when that happened though... My friend's doing the single mom thing, and I've never seen her happier. Me, well I'm too broke to even consider such a thing. Need a baby daddy to help pay those bills. Somebody's gotta keep working when I become a beached whale ;P

  22. Lizziegreeneyes says I've known single mom's who went into it as a single mom - not in the cards for me - I totally dig that they're cool with it - it's not for me though - no woman is an island & I don't want to turn into Kyra Sedgwick in Loverboy !!!!
