mog..... too good to be true?

Posted over 5 years ago
I can't decide which is better - MOG or Last.fm. Both are so good, but that number of community-based sites which are all so promising in bringing cool people together is getting out of hand! For me at least, there is quite a limit to the number of these sites, mp3 blogs, etc., which I can remember to visit regularly and actually benefit from. Um... I am sure in some kind of weird analytical state right now. I should probably get out of the parasitology lab.

  1. terese says I still have both accounts. I mainly use MOG though. There's just something about it that makes it better. Or, maybe I'm still bitter about LastFM buying Audioscrobbler.

  5. democlez says I haven't gone to last.fm in months now. As a website, I prefer MOG because it's a community of people who love music. If you want to step out of your musical comfort zone, a quick browse of the mog-o-sphere will give you a handful of tracks from artists you would otherwise never hear about. If you want to stay closer to what you love, a simple post of "I love this track, what are some other tracks like it" will get you a response in no time. That said, I still use the last.fm radio player all the time. It's great to turn on and just let it play in the background, every once in a while jotting down a song that catches my interest.

  6. LizQuincy says I'm really new to this site, so I don't know all the perks yet. As for the Last.fm player, I haven't used it much either. Although the songs are based on your own library, it seems to give me some weird, unrelated stuff. Pandora (if you don't know what it is, hit that link as fast as you can), on the other hand, is completely unrelated to the music you already have on your hard drive, and the stations created are based on artists/songs you specifiy and ratings you give to the songs it plays. I find myself at that site multiple times a day, at whatever computer I may be sitting at. Because it's all online, it takes up no disk space, and you can listen to it (or create new stations) anywhere (perfect for those Saturday afternoons when I'm all alone in the biology lab). Now THAT is REALLY too good to be true.

  7. damianmannn says I have an account on both sites. But, for community, this is the place. Last FM is a buggy site. THIS is a buggy site. So, really, the main thing here is community. I'm hoping the developers make listening to other MOGgers music a priority after the Beta stage.
