WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Brighton Treats

Posted about 1 year ago
OK so my plans to save up for a laptop went out the window the other day when I went to Planet Video. I was only looking for one CD and I ended up with 4. Great. Yeah, but no, but yeah - they were actually awesome. 1. Brighton Treats with Popped Beats: A double CD compilation of a collection of top 40 songs with underground beats. Absolute magic.2. Erykah Badu - New Amerykah: What can I say? It was recommended to me with great enthusiasm ("Album of the Year" type stuff) and I can honestly say I was not disappointed. I heard some half-arsed reviews for it, but I can't understand why...3. Mark Ronson - Version: A somewhat confusing record. Packed full of covers, all completely listenable. The tracks featuring Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen were diamonds, but the Radiohead cover, 'Just', featuring Alex Greenwald was an absolute mystery. Why pick someone with exactly the same vocal style as Thom Yorke? I think Mark Ronson could've been a whole lot more adventurous. You can't simply replace each original instrument with a brass section. Great album, but I'm still in the love/hate stage.4. Fat Freddy's Drop - Based On A True Story: Just Beautiful. If you don't like Dub, then just concentrate on the vocals. Like butter I tells ya. Great for those chilled out days. Here's one from the Queen of Soul herself - a cover of a Beatles classic. What a treat!

  1. Livveth says Oh, and the track is from "Brighton Treats with Popped Beats" and NOT "Young, Gifted and Black" as the tag claims. If anyone knows how to fix this, let me know. The title of the second album makes me chuckle though...
