THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

Sometimes there are bands that just give you warm fuzzies when you hear them. Squeeze is one of those bands for me. I used to listen to them a lot when I was in college...the first time around. Ahem. I heard Tempted the other day on a classic rock station, and when it came time to pick my music for listening tonight I decided to line them up in my playlist. It was a good choice. Two other bands that give me the same sentimental feelings are the English Beat and Split Enz. Good stuff.I've been gone for a while - I just returned for a most fabulous, but almost completely musicless vacation to the Black Hills of South Dakota with my son and parents. I brought along a little bit of music, but after one attempt to play Ozomatli on the preposterously tinny sound system in the trailer, I just gave up. It wasn't that bad, and I wouldn't trade anything for the trip we had. I saw just about every wonderful tourist attraction possible - Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, the Badlands, Wall Drug, Reptile Gardens, Wind Cave, Custer State Park (famous for its bison herds), Devil's Tower, Cody, and Yellowstone...I feel like I've left something out. Anyhow, it was a wonderful experience, and a much needed time away for me.Needless to say, I'm now playing catch up with my music listening. I'm still very busy, at least through Thursday, but then I can sit back and relax a bit. Good thing too - I have some decisions to make about which music I'm going to go see in the next couple of months! Lots of good possibilities...but I'll cover that in another post.Ciao!Wyoming welcomes us!

  1. Dale says All three of those bands give me warm fuzzies as well; they remind me of middle school.

  6. dermahrk says Big Squeeze fan here. Have all of their CDs, as well as Glenn Tilbrook's solo stuff. Can't take Chris Difford's voice (or lack thereof) but love his lyrics. His singing tracks always get deleted on the iPod. The West is gorgeous. Took my honeymoon in the Grand Tetons (in a tent - poor musicians don't travel first class) and more recently a train trip to the Grand Canyon. There was a little creepy spot called Hell's Half Acre that shouldn't be missed.

  9. Mike the Knife says Welcome back to the MOG-iverse at large, Lib. Sounds like an excellent adventure into the Dakota Territory. And Squeeze is still aces in my book. (Or should I say cool for a cat like me?)
