Essential Listening Volume 48

It's a close contest between this one and _Mama Said_ as to which one is my favorite Lenny. It was 1993, and I had just gotten a Sony Car Discman which I had put on layaway for god's sake. This was the first CD I played in it. My 88 Civic hatchback only had two speakers in the front doors but they served their purpose. I always thought Lenny's interpetation and mixture of soul, classic rock, a little jazz and some Beatles thrown in was just pretty damn cool, and it still is. I'm awfully partial to _Mama Said_, though.

Me and the Horse I Rode In On says Both albums played a huge part in my life. High-school memories. Mama Said was my introduction to Lenny Kravitz. Mama Said: Making blocks in pickup-trucks in small town in Arkansas.......ex-exchange student paying the old friends a visit and trying to figure out how come I ended up there and not in New York. Are You Gonna Go My Way: Bought the album in Paris. A lot of Jack Daniels in that period. I listened to it all the time and was convinced that this would be the album of 1993. I don't remember if my musical taste changed during that year.......of if the album followed me. I don't listen to him anymore. I lost interest...........but I did spend some time with his greatest hits album in 2000.....just to travel down memory lane. That felt pretty good. Still.........I won't go back.

NeilNathan says lenny jumped the shark years ago unfortunately don't know what happened but those first two records sure had some tunes slash on guitar pushed my buttons too those were some cool ass, jewish, mulatto rockers! who'd have thunk that a saul and a lenny would be anything but two grandpas playing bridge poolside

2Serenity says I love love Lenny and mostly his second album - Mama Said. I was known as a boho hip hop lover back in the late 80s and 90s. I had that discman too! Great to see someone with great taste!
