WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I stumbled on this back in the day when emusic was offering unlimited downloads as the subscription rate. I miss those days, damn. Um, this LP is nothing but her and layers of guitars and echo. Recorded in 1982, her thick, deep voice sounds almost callow here in her younger days, oh, and a kick ass Velvets cover. This resembles very little of her more recent work with _Everything But the Girl_, the name kind of a velvets nod in itself, really. Very very highly recommended. I lost this when the old Ipod bit it a few weeks ago, and Emusic doesn't have it anymore. Luckily I found it on a mix I made back in 01. Happiness. With an I.

  2. Auralgasms says Not to nit-pick but I wanted to point out that I think you mean Tracey THORN and not Tracey Thomas. T Thorn was the voice behind EBTG as well as a couple of awesome Massive Attack collaborations. She has a new record coming out in March called Out Of The Woods

  4. jenipop says Glad you still have it...and unsure of the mix quality, I wanted to tell you that they do have A Distant Shore available on Cherry Red Records as a Digital Download. And those who are unfamiliar with Thorn - or this classic album - can click on the song titles for a preview: http://secure1.mppglobal.com/ishop/202/Tracey-Thorn/A-Distant-Shore-Music-Download/252542/ProductInfo.aspx?Guid=1954cae1db03471b9c8c60ce29526522 Did you know they also have Pillows & Prayers V/A (Volumes 1 & 2) on the list of downloads? Now I'm in trouble. Thanks for the post, reminds me of when Lois and James McNew covered the Marine Girls at this living room-sized show I went to years and years ago :)

  5. Misstee says Isn't it great? She's my favorite singer. Period. Everything But the Girl 's first single/12' is a cover of 'Night and Day' but the B side is a lovely song called 'Dizzy'. Its worth seeking out.

  7. jason7a says I got hooked on the Velvet Underground because of this album. Back in college I'd play Tracey's version of Femme Fatale repeatedly; a few months later I was listening nonstop to the Velvet Underground and Nico.
