YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

This, is one of the greatest Hip Hop albums ever. Artists today have gotten so far away from the ideals, sounds, and voices that originated hip hop, that probably couldn't tell you where it came from in the first place. The Bronx, Brooklyn NYC baby. That's what's up. Not Killin the haters, roolin on 22's, bling, bitches, Cash Money and the lot. It's about living, survivng, about Rappin, about talkin the streets and beats where you grew up, stayin true to the scene. Not about makin vaudeville movies, fat houses and bein on _Cribs_. Not about throwin up machine guns just because the previous generation did it. Learn and evovle from the guns, haven't enough people died? Maybe the explosion of the genre created all of these digressions, but when was the last time you heard some _really_ old school sparse beats and rhymes. I guess you could find it if you looked. But if you have to effort the search, what does it say about the genre. It wouldn't sell, the kids won't buy it. All they want is watching _Cribs_ and cash money and the bling and the bitches. What happened to the music? Oh yeah, here it is.And where do you think _they_ learned it from??anybody remember when rap was truly social commentary? Like the new folk rock. Motherfuckers will LAUGH at you thinkin stuff like that about rap these days. I just don't think artists care about the genre as that type of vehicle these days. Even in the height of Gangsta in the early mid 90's, they were still talkin about the streets and they peeps, even if it was absolutely frightening to the white folks. It was still a social commentary the best, the only kind they knew. And nobody did it better, or funnier, really. But where did that get us, really?Hmmmm, peoples, it's a bit of a disconnect from this, then isn't it?

  1. Cody B says The teachers are still out there, but you are right, no ones buying. Hip Hop has reverted to its original boasting roots, only meaner and less inclusive.

  3. kat3260 says I have never been as cultured on the hip-hop realm as I should be; but from my amateur perspective, it seems like you hit the nail on the head brotha! Short & sweet posts are good, but these long, well-thought out ones are my favorite. Well, and the sunset/moonrise ones ;o)

  6. sam9muhr says Cool read. Haven't really been a rap/hip hop fan, and some of that has to do with the same things you've explained here. I find things I like/can handle here and there... But the more old school, the better, definitely. Ahem, I mean, "fo sho."
